Not exactly what we wanted...

Not exactly what we wanted...

'A lower league opponent at Fratton is what we wanted in the cup', not my vote, yours - although these findings from PompeyFrippy's poll are thoughts that I must admit I had shared really...

Getting a home tie is always a bonus, right?

Being drawn away at either Brighton or FC United of Manchester very much leaves us open for an upset, and in many ways - not that it would have been 'much easier' - facing either of these at Fratton would have been preferable I guess.

Whatever though, lets face it, we got the 'lower league' opponent that most wanted and whilst it would be foolish to say 'its nailed on' that we will go into round 4, if we go about things the right way then whichever side we face we 'should' beat them.

Who would we prefer though, that is the next question...

  • What the poll asked - FA Cup 3rd Round Draw on Sunday, who do we want?

  • How you voted - Home tie against someone in the lower leagues 62%
    Scummers 29%
One of the big boys 5%
    Spurs 2%
Lowly Premier team we can prove a point against 2%
Someone from the Championship to keep our focus 0%

Before we move on what are your thoughts on what the last poll concluded? You know what to do, thoughts below please guys...

Brighton arent interested in the cup (poyets words) and FC United are several leagues below us... this isnt a bad draw, a derby would be my preference! PuP

It'll do - Brighton might not be interested but are we? Tiny squad, more injuries and suspensions and we end up being relegated!

I don't believe that a cup run is that important, for the reasoning you give although the club accountants may see it differently if Pompey can get a run of home games.

Brr just got back to Blighty from sunnier climes and was wondering what the cup draw had given us. This is interesting. We used to have some good old Derby matches with Brighton, but haven't been in the same division for many a year, so that could be fun, and not too far to go either. Whereas FC Utd is an interesting one, not a team we'd ever have played before, but a bit of a trek. I think it'll be the seagulls and I might be tempted to go! As for cup runs not being important, last years was fun!

Topping last seasons tally the aim

78pts was only enough for a play-off place last season so you suspect we'll have to better that for a top 3 finish this coming season, which begins with Carlisle at Fratton.

Done Deal - Smith in permanently from Swindon

The interest Pompey retained in Smith, with him 'in our sights' has resulted in him returning to the Blues on a permanent basis after signing for an 'undisclosed fee' from Swindon.

    Cushioning the blow

Much, that needed saying, about Webster's exit for Ipswich and the arrival of Clarke in return (and cash) has been said hasn't it? Doyle's been spot on with what he said.
