New deal for Nugent? I would be surprised!

Dave Nugent to extend his Pompey stay?

I admit that I am less against the idea of this happening, and also think it is a 'little' more likely to happen than it seemed it would as little as 3-months ago, even so if the guy is still a Pompey player next season I would be 'surprised', to say the least.

To be honest all of the 'big earners' that are out of contract, and some that are not, are players I would 'expect' to move on when the season if done - if not before - and Nugent is one of them.

Today he is talking in The News about this 'possibly' happening with talks underway on a new deal, or at least starting to get underway, but not really getting anywhere just yet - and this is not something that he is entirely against either and if Pompey can bring him premier league football again, something he thinks we can, then that would help his decision making.

It is players on the kind on money that the likes of Nugent is that are not sustainable so I cannot see how we could keep him?

A substantial pay cut would have to be taken before the 25-year-old extending his Pompey stay could come anything near to resembling a realistic possibility.

As said, whilst I still feel he runs around like a headless chicken at times, I have come round more to the idea of him staying and would not actually mind this should it become the case.

I cannot see this happening though...

Rug nevermind what we want. The club will not offer him the same wage, that's for sure. We have expected him to be flying in Premier League football but he has proved to be a Premier League flop! I think we should try to sell him in January. At least we get something back. PS: I love this picture... scoring against 'Arry's Tottenhens!

The man's crap, Prem quality? blimey he's hardly Chumps quailty...Double fiqures he say's? a double hernia is more likely!!

Mokoena signed a new contract on Pompey's (£) terms as, he wants to be here. If Nugent really wanted to stay then of course - it's a possibility. I think he's easily a championship standard player, and his endeavour can't be faulted!

Mok stated cos no one else bid for him, and he also did not want to back to south Africa. Nugent us currently on £28kpw, that's beyond pompey's limit two fold, if he scored us back into the Prem then maybe but I think this contract discussion us more to do with making sure the club get something when he departs. Fair play to the man, he has played his way back into bring talked about for the right reasons, 5 goals in some 8 games- not too bad.

I'm pleased Lamp's has gone on to the radio and defended the transfer policy. I'm actually bludee surprised there is one.

Isn't LL (albeit not a Pompey player....yet) on approx £20k pw? I wouldn't put Nuge in the same class as LL, but I thought they were looking more at an average wage limit than a limit per se
