Rowan back, but he will not sign...

Rowan Vine, remember him?

This is a guy that was going to be 'the next big thing' for Pompey, although, like so many up and coming youngsters - before, and since I guess - his chance never came at Fratton so he eventually moved on...

He scored goals for fun with Luton and then got a 'big money' move to Birmingham, which I do not think really worked out, but a loan with QPR was fruitful and he eventually signed for them.

Now, at 28 - so, still with something to give - he is 'out of favour' with QPR and is training with Pompey to 'regain his sharpness' although Steve Cotterill, quoted in The Mail, says we are just 'helping him out' and no move will take place for the striker: 'we aren't signing Rowan but we're happy to help him out.'

I am not entirely sure if Vine has been, or will be, released by QPR but this is certainly an unusual move - well, certainly if he is still under contract with QPR so 'rumours' that a return could come about are sure to do the rounds.

Another striker is something that Cotterill said that he would like, as well as a defender and a midfielder, but what we have to remember is we still have Danny Webber, who I 'thought' was close to returning?

Talking of strikers and 'rumours', Swindon's Charlie Austin was 'said' to be interesting us and even before we had come out of administration, let alone had our transfer embargo lifted, we had offered '£1m' for him...

We, along with several other clubs, are still 'believed' to be keeping an eye of the free-scoring 21-year-old striker and 'could' make a move for him in the New Year?

As much as I would like to keep him and give him a chance that I think he deserves, 'perhaps' a deal that involved Matty Ritchie joining Swindon permanently could play a part in a 'possible' move?

Not that I would be expecting too much, if any, transfer activity coming in when the transfer window opens again anyway mind...

I think letting Ritchie go would be a mistake, defence is where the main issue is. I also think Cotterille doesn't do anything to help people out unless he stands to benefit. Is Charlie A better than shifty, or webber ( the ever returning webber) the only way I can see him coming is if one of the other striker's leaves and you have to think Nuge would be favourite given his contract is up in July.

The Daily Mail have run the story 'hometown boy returns' but Rowan was born in Basingstoke!! More rubbish from the Mail.

I would actually take Viney on as I think he does have something to offer. I can't see where Cotts is going to get reinforcements from. Forget Austin, we rubbed Swindon up the wrong way last time so can't see them doing any favours.
