Ciftci's increasing pounds...lbs not £'s!

If anyone has been wondering, I know I have, why Steve Cotterill has been overlooking Nadir Ciftci in recent weeks, and been so reluctant to use the youngster then the answer was given on Friday...

Cotterill, when talking to The News, said that the youngster had started getting a little too 'portly' for his liking!

Apparently he has been gaining pounds, and not of the money kind as is the case with so many modern day footballers, of the unwanted lbs weight kind, getting on for ¾ of a stone: 'the reason Nadir hasn't had too much of a look-in lately is because he has put on 10lb in weight.

'He has been at the back of the running in training, he's been slow, he's been sluggish and that's been a problem.

'Since then, we have stepped up his training and he has ended up doing a lot of extra running and we have started to see the benefit of that this week. That's why he came off the bench against QPR.'

Too much Turkish delight for the Dutchman being courted by Guus Hiddink's Turkey is it then?! Hmm, I am not sure how much good exposing Ciftci as 'Mr Blobby' will do, but then again perhaps it will give him a kick up his (oversized) backside, or so it is said, that he needs?

Clearly the guy has talent and a level of ability about him, that if harnessed correctly - and if he keeps his own feet grounded, which with his increasing bulk should be easy, and he does not believe in his own hype too much - could see him become a very useful footballer in the future.

But, apparently so, he now also has to look at his own conditioning too...

    Funny write-up :)

From zenith to nadir - perhaps he should put a dutch cap on that turkish delight.

He can always come power walking with me of a morning.

Surely professional footballers have their weight monitored on a regular basis. How can it be allowed balloon to a level that effects a players performance.

As I've posted previously Cotterille has made some quite frankly bizarre statements in the media. With his man management style he has to be a winner and continuously, as we all see time and time again in any team sport contiuous criticism of your players comes back to bite you and you quickly lose the changing room.

And as various commented, tentonne shifty was too quick for Nugent and Dave the delicate, Kitson.

If he had played on Saturday it may have helped the cause!! The decision to go with Kanu is a disgrace, he is a luxury we cant afford in this league. Doncaster proved that hard work and graft will secure the points, plodding around on past reputations will give us nothing.

This youngster has the chance to break into the first team in the second tier of English football - that's an amazing opportunity. His day job involves training and keeping fit. My day job involves sitting on my @$, so I get up at 6am to go swimming to ensure I don't pile on the lb's. There's no excuse for this whatsoever!

I know the answer - get the linesman (the one running the line on the North Stand side) from Saturday in the food queue ahead of Shifty, then there won't be any pies left!

Cotterill is using shaming tactics to get Ciftci into losing weight, I reckon. Not bad at all.

I wonder how much of this is true. How is Cotterill to know that he hasn't just been training his guns and the added muscle is the weight? I am "interested" in this admission by SC. Not only does it possibly humiliate Cifti, but it also proves to the players that SC will go public if he deems it proper.
