'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Nugent's long-term is with Pompey?

'Dave Nugent will sign a new contract to remain with Pompey in the long-term', not my vote, yours - although these findings from pompeyrug's poll are thoughts that I do not agree with.

Whilst I admit that Nugent has actually started winning me round, as I was pretty much dead set on wanting him out over the summer as he 'annoyed me' - to say the least - with his attack on us, the fans, plus I thought his attitude was poor, I do think that his actual footballing ability is not in a par with a 'decent' wage that he is bringing in...

To be honest I still think that if an offer came in for him in the New Year he would be sold on, that said I would think the package to him would have to be right too. 'If' he stayed until the end of the season then I cannot see him staying beyond this, when his contract expires so he would leave on a free.

Should he have a good season then he would have others interested so he would, I think, accept another offer made to him. Should the club actually decide that we want him to extend his stay then I cannot see the same money being given to him, and this may well be the defining factor.

Whatever happens if Nugent is still in a Pompey shirt this time next year I would be surprised - although it would seem that plenty of others would not...

  • What the poll asked - What will happen to Nugent next?

  • How you voted - Sign a new deal and stay 40%
    Leave in January 21%
Move on a free at the end of the season 20%
    Not sure yet... 19%

Before we move on what are your thoughts on what the last poll concluded? You know what to do, thoughts below please guys...

tbh, whilst i might be wrong, i would be 'pretty surprised' to see nugent sign a new contract - if he left in january i would not be overly surprised...

he could have gone on loan on deadline day but he didnt answer his phone. after another players recent comments (brown?) that some of the bigger earners were being encouraged to leave on deadline day but they decided to stay and help the club, this must mean nugent didnt answer his phone on purpose? i think he wants to stay and make a success of himself, and the club wants to sell him because his wages are high. he'll stay, but only if he accepts a reduction in wages in any new contract.

It's Nugent who controls the situation Rug, if he doesn't want to leave the club can't make him; what are they going to do in Jan11 drop him? They can't afford to do that and he will have a year only on his contract; he may as well stay and I play out his contract, then ge can go on a free or re- contract with Pompey if it is going well. Speaking of going well - or not- Nugent won't play the QPR game; I'm hoping Stevie C has learnt from the last game. Personally I would consider Kanu replacing Kitson or Utaka if the signs aren't good. Kanu's hold up play has been real class in the two short stints he's had, enough to justify serious consideration, particularly as there is no Webber and, it seems, the boss isn't keen to play Ciftci

No one liked his out bursts, bujt he is young and was huret by Redknapp and then hart. at that age we all said or did things in heat of moment. Judging him on the now and not the past is what we all need to do now

and the reality is.... if he has any form worth >£1m SOLD
