'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Remember where we have just come from Steve!

I am not entirely sure in what context Steve Cotterill meant it, but his thoughts that we 'must strengthen' are slightly concerning...

Of course, I think we all know, that we could do with a little more depth in this squad but bringing in much will not, or at least should not, really happen should it?

Players, such as The Herminator and Danny Webber are returning to fitness, so that increases our numbers slightly, so we should not forget that.

No, do not think, we should forget the youngsters that we have, which perhaps need to be sheltered, but need to have faith put in them too as they are here and SHOULD be a part of the 1st team - I include Tom Kilbey in this, who seems to have been totally forgotten after an injury in pre-season...

'Using the tools' that are available is something that he has managed to do, without fuss, thus far so - within reason - why not continue to do this?

Quite if this is the media spinning it how they want to but the implication that they are giving is that Cotterill is looking to strengthen in January - I just hope that this is, if this is even the case, being looked at within realistic parameters.

Not purely down to the financial side of things, which MUST be kept in check, I am also thinking about the unity of this squad as tinkering too much, and then discarding players too easily that have helped us rebuild could soon see this unity destroyed, or at least unbalanced, and then where does this leave us?!

Whilst I appreciated that every manager wants 'his own team', moulding what we have into something stronger is something we must continue to do with minor, and I would 'hope' if not 'expect' this to be nothing more than minor adjustments being made.

Lets remember that we still have a big hole to dig ourselves out of, lets not make it deeper, which could end up being one too many that there is no way out of...

With all due respect, and perhaps controversially I must point out that while the youngsters came in and did a good job at the start of the season when we desperately needed them to cover, we didn't exactly bathe ourselves in glory (points wise) at the time. Yes, I would be delighted for us to hold onto them and slowly expose them to more first team opportunity, but one or two players of a (even slightly) higher quality would be great to see. Michael Tonge would be superb if that ever happened. The Football League will be monitoring us very carefully and preventing us from doing anything daft anyway - you hope that they will prove better at this than the Premier League anyway!

Heres the thing, if we want the poisoned chalice (promotion) then we need some more players, promotion would bring in extra money and if we went straight back down there would also be a parachute payment, however isnt part of the CVA that if we get promotion then the payments increase to finish the CVA early? I cant see a good way out of where we are at the moment. Would I like us to be in the Prem, definately definately definately, but do I want us to spend money we dont have to get there, absolutely not, unless we get an owner the likes of Red Rom or the City Sheik then we should be aiming more at stabilty than anything else. With all that being said I dont want to see a change in the way we are at the moment, how delightful it has been for us to have this run, it certainly re-invigorates me. What will be will be I suppose, Pompey Till I Die.........

SC is already saying what he wants and this is before he has even spoken to the owner. Should the owner and SC's targets prove to differ once they get around the table, will SC do a "Twitchy"?

I don't like these kind of comments. We have managed to do the magnificant run with the depth we have. As said, Hermann and Webber are coming back. All we need is another midfielder, as I don't think Hughes is up to it anymore, if he ever was. Take it step by step Steve!

SC knows the score both in what BC has said about spending and the FL rules on our transfers, so I guess his 'wish list' has been hyped up by the media.

Whilst I agree whole-heartedly with keeping our finances in order, we have to face facts in that we are only an injury or two (Lawrence god forbid) from losing matches like the one we just won against Forest. We have a serious examination of our credentials coming up (Derby and QPR) amongst others and it would be a shame if we failed to make the play-offs for want of that little bit of added quality (at the right price of course).

Naive bloody comment from SC - tight team spirit and he unsettles it with this type of thing. Bad bad decision
