Sol Campbell Deal Abandoned

Pompey are all set to pull out of a deal to bring Sol Campbell to Portsmouth. This comes after talks between the clubs persuaded Harry Redknapp that money was better off spent elsewhere.

Arsenal have informed Portsmouth that they would want a sum in the region of seven hundred and fifty thousand pounds. They also informed Portsmouth of the players wages, thought to be about 70k a week!

Portsmouth will now look at other options although they have not ruled out a move for the player if (on the return from the world cup) he decides he would take a pay cut to join us.

Well if we couldn't match DA £30k+ then this was always going to be a non starter. Just goes to show the sort of revenue the top clubs have to make to pay a whole squad of top notch players. We can't get one.

Were Pompey having a laugh? Campbell would never of joined them!

richy23. Don't take the pi55. We are not a Grimsby or a Rochdale. No doubt you had a laugh at Wigan before last season. We can't all be Barcalona types.

So by 'abondoned' you mean 'still interested'?
PompeyRuleOK
He's on 60k a week so i can't see him taking 2/3rds of a wage drop to join us. He'll get the wages he wants elsewhere.

Abandoned after Sol to Harry to F... Off.

be great for you if u can pull it off, no reason y not. u could do well next season, i feel it in my waters

He is a good player and we certainly can't afford 70k a week. He is getting on a bit now for a pro footballer and he must have millions in the bank, he may take the pay cut and choose to retire in a couple of years. Stranger things have happened!

Pretty sure it says at the top "Deal Abandoned" which means its not happening.
GreenGiant13
no abandoned as in still intrested but waiting on sol to return and then see what he says

if a game is abandoned it is off and then re-aranged

Do you have dictionary Les? Abondoned means you have given up. If a game is abondoned the teams do not play THAT game again, they replay the fixture. Just admit you chose to use the word abondoned to be dramatic, yet inaccurate in your typical tabloid style.
