A bit on Tonge on the menu

Pompey's efforts to become 'Stoke seconds' are moving up a notch according to 'reports' in the mail that Steve Cotterill is trying to bring in Michael Tonge on loan.

With a couple, well technically 3 including Liam Lawrence on a temporary loan basis until the New Year, already on loan from Stoke many would think that we cannot bring in any more players from Stoke?

Although apparently emergency loan moves work in a different way so we would not limited to just the usual any 2 from anyone club - I cannot say that I know this is the case for sure...

Player after player arriving now that our transfer embargo has been 'relaxed' is not something that I would want, or expect - and certainly hope does not happen! - although a midfielder is something that has been spoken about, so could well happen in a loan capacity.

So, the right person at the right price would not be something to turn our nose up at, right?

To be honest I think that Tonge is a decent footballer, especially at this level - so, 'if' the deal is right and we are not getting carried away then why not...

yea i read this and i wonder if buying all our eggs from Stoke's basket is such a good thing. Obviuosly Pulis doesnt rate Tonge particulalrly or he wouldnt be letting him go on loan. We can't have a flood of emergency loan players as the limit is 21 or 22 but i also hopw that newbies are fed in carefully; in any industry or sport when you have a tight team that have fought their way out from under the Cosh new arrivals can be disturbing.

Yeh, copy spurs & create a reserve Stoke team!

we also have to be careful not to upset the balance of the squad, any loanees that come in will most probably go straight into the side - that means someone going out, someone that is contracted to the club and if they take exception to this the united squad we have could soon split...
it is imperative that cotterill remembers that players contracted to the club, beyond the end of the season, are players we have on a 'longer-term' process, alot - if not all - of these loanees will 'probably' return from whence they came so treating the contracted, and younger players, right is essential!

I remember him being a very good player some 7-8 years ago for Sheff Utd, when we won the Championship & they finished third. Michael Brown & Tonge scored when they beat us 2-1 at FP that season. I don't think he realsied his potnetial & isn't prem material. We need numbers & he could do a job for us. Him & Brown may work some old magic, worth a chance. I

I think we have to take what we can get...like RussellmI remember him and Brown together under Warnock...and would not be overly saddened by his arrival..

Matt is spot on as always that Tonge was being touted as a future England player at that time and like a lot of youngsters went off the rails!! Was going to use the Tonge in cheek one too but decided against it.

We must have a connection with Stoke somewhere, is it Pulis? We seem to be getting too many from the same club. I hope we don't start to copy their kit! Still if Tonge is a good player and can do a job for us then its got to be a good thing.

What is the crack, how can we take anymore Stoke players. Not complaining just confused as i thought we could only have 2 senior players?????
