'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Another month for Flahavan

For a 3rd month running Darryl Flahavan has signed a fresh 1-month contract.

With the transfer embargo being relaxed, I would not say removed as it has not really - nor should it in all honesty given our situation as it would be ludicrous for this to be the case - I am slightly surprised that Flahavan has not signed a more longer-term contract, through until the end of the year perhaps?

But hey ho that is the clubs call and as long as all are happy, which seems the case - according to what Flahavan told The Pompey Site - then you have to go by that old adage 'if it aint broke don't fix it' I guess: 'it feels right here - it always has done.

'It's always been an ambition of mine to be here, so I'm over the moon.'

As yet the 33-year-old is still waiting to make his Pompey debut, I am still surprised he did not play in the league cup, although he understands he will have to bide his time: 'Jamie and I get on really well.

'At the moment he's playing really well but I'll just keep working hard and if I get my chance then I'll do my best for the club.'

Sorry to harp on about it again, but I am still disappointed that Liam O'Brien is no longer on our books.

Yep Flahavan and Jamie Ashdown are decent keepers but neither are exactly young, even if they are not old by keeper standards, that said neither are really the 'long-term' for us are they?

O'Brien is, or at least should have been.

Sadly he will be someone else's now, and plenty of clubs - at levels from the top-flight down to league one - have shown an interest with his latest move 'expected' to be a club going places...

Liam OBrien is still Englands U19 No1. We do have a problem in the keeper position. JA is more Shakey than a Stevens and DF isn't good enough to replace him; no Darren it's not been your ambition to play for Pompey, not until a desperate club offered you a contract. The best one has been let go cos he wouldn't let the Manager bully him.

I cannot see Ashdown being our number one if we get back to the Premier League. He is not a Prem goalie, sorry, but that's how it is! I'd be relishing to have a better keeper who can become our long term.

We need two keepers to get through the season and Paddy and Flav will do. No need to worry about the Premier League YET.
