Herman Hreidarsson, Herman Hreidarsson...

Herman Hreidarsson, Herman Hreidarsson...

Saturday, which 'should' have been purely about the football - as football on a Saturday at 3pm is what football is all about - although the continued 'dramas' off-the-pitch threatened, for a brief while, to overshadow things at the KC against Hull.

Although this was not the case and we, as a club and supporters, did what we did best - united as one to get the job done!

Someone, and something, that I feel deserves a special mention is The Herminator, who made his return from a 7-month injury lay-off to feature among the subs and actually got on for the closing minutes.

When he was warming up he was given the 'Hermann Hreidarsson, Hermann Hreidarsson, Hermann Hreidarsson, Hermann Hreidarsson...' treatment and given a tremendous reception when he did come on.

Steve Cotterill, as he told The Pompey Site, was 'really pleased' to have him back: 'it's great that Hermann's finally got back on the pitch because he has worked his socks off.

'I'm really pleased for him.'

We are all pleased for him, lets just hope that his rehabilitation continues to go well and we have him back to his best in the months ahead.

As we have all said previously his influence off-the-field cannot be stated enough, but he has also been a big presence on it too.

So, if we can get anything like his infectious best from him we will not go far wrong!

Mo2 you are right, he will also bring some organisation to the defence and a bit of coverage for Ashdown who is suspect at crosses and corners.

Well said Moley. Let's hope he gets back to his awesome best, but even if he doesn't I'm sure your description will still apply.

My abiding memory of Herman is the day of the FA Cup Parade. He was on the top of the open top bus and got so excited as the bus turned onto the seafront from Bellvue Terrace, revealing all the crowds that had turned up, tht he started jumping up and down like kids do. Distin and a couple of the others had to stop him from falling off!

What a great guy. He may hold the record for being relegated from the most Prem sides, however this is a man made of steel. We should feel so fortunate that we still have this kind of character in our midst.

On this day in history...13th February

A look back at this day in history, and what was happening with Pompey courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, 13th February.

    Big Ben returns!

There's no doubting how important Davies is to us, we most definitely missed the former Sheffield United man against Orient but Cook's confirmed he'll start against Bristol Rovers.

    Winning over the fans

Cook feels he still has to 'win over a proportion' of the fans at Pompey?

Tubbs surprised...in a way he has a point

5-goals in a combined total of 8-matches isn't a bad return is it so having made his move to Eastleigh this week I get Tubbs' point at his surprise Cook wasn't selecting him.
