Surprise, surprise Gold has something to say!
If it is not David Sullivan it is David Gold that has something to say about virtually everything!
Liverpool have been the latest club 'in crisis' although they 'seem' as though they are going to be bailed out before it is too late for this to be the case and this is what has seen Gold have his say about their situation, which of course went onto ours too.
Seeing Liverpool get sorted out as a club is something that he gives a 'warm welcome' too as their plight has 'saddened' him in recent months: 'I think, like anyone who's got a bit of Liverpool in their heart, I have been very saddened to see what's happened to the club over the past six months in particular, so I give a warm welcome to anything that improves the issue.'
I have nothing against Liverpool as a club to be honest although the break that football needed of a true 'giant' of football getting into major trouble 'looks' like being avoided - is this being avoided in a 'fair' way? This, as much as I would not wish anything bad against another club, will not do football any good in the long-term will it?
According to Gold it seems ok to have debt so long as you do not use this to 'cheat', as we did: 'if you are using debt to cheat that's different. You can argue that Portsmouth built debt to cheat. They were buying players and spending extreme amounts of money and building debt.
'Portsmouth outbid people to buy those players. Is that not cheating? I see it as a form of cheating.'
Going into admin is certainly a form of cheating, assuming you come out the other side 'ok', although he is not really referring to that is he.
Although did we really cheat anymore than anyone else does anyway?
How many clubs, West Ham including I think you will find Gold, spend money that they do not really have?
Until rules come into place to prevent this then things will carry on in this vein.
Could you not argue, with a debt far exceeding £100m and struggling to make ends meet - Sullivan was giving a sob story to the papers recently on this issue - that West Ham are not cheating themselves now...
I see that as a form of cheating Gold - then again football in general in cheating all the time, as said until this changes nothing will change and all the while the 'bigger clubs' are given preferential treatment nothing will change and football, well more the fans, will continue to suffer.
