'Speculation' that has 'linked' Milan Mandaric with a return to Pompey has been happening in recent weeks as much due to what he has actually been saying himself. He always has been, and always will be, a media whore!
Weekend 'reports' were 'claiming' that Balram Chainrai would be taking over, as has always seemed likely, by mid October - October 15th is the latest date mentioned - although it was 'said' that Milan would be in control again by Christmas...
His involvement with Leicester is coming to an end with the Thai consortium taking them over meant to be seeing this ratified by the football league this week, this would then leave him free to move on, if he so wished.
Moving on is something that he is going to do at some points - when he is no longer wanted as chairman of Leicester - although staying with them for now is something he says he wants to do but and owning another English club is something that he wants in the future.
Although this being Pompey, according to his latest comments, is not that likely: 'I'm going to say it maybe for the first time now after all the speculation, I don't think I can meet the expectations of the great supporters over there that I love so much and my own expectations if I go back at this time.
'So for that reason I'm ruling myself almost out of that.
'Eventually I will end up somewhere in football whether you like it or not, you can't get rid of me that soon.'
What Milan says and what actually happens can often be different, as we and Leicester know - just in the past week or so their manager, Paulo Sousa, was given the full backing and then sacked a couple of days later to be replaced by Sven Goran Eriksson - so you can never say never can you where he is concerned...
To be honest, whilst I understand the advantages that many feel Milan has - and he has a strong backing among many Pompey fans, especially here on Vital Pompey, I am not going to be missing too much sleep over this, should this prove to be the case, sorry if that sounds harsh!
