Confidence in Cotterill...just!

'Steve Cotterill 'kind off' has my confidence when it comes to tactics, team selection and him in general', not my vote, yours - although these findings from veccccio's poll are thoughts that I also kind of basically agree with...

Before I carry on let me make it clear, not that it makes much difference - in many ways, these thoughts were written prior to Leicester game last night! And whatever the thoughts are I do not think that this win should, just yet, see a massive sway in what you were thinking.

I was pretty happy to see Cotterill appointed but I have to confess that my thoughts on him have changed in recent weeks, I am not saying I want him to go - far from it - but his standard comments post games are starting to wear thin really...

People were highly critical of Tony Adams and Paul Hart, even Avram Grant at times, yet he does remind me of them, in many ways, with his thoughts and actions at times. A inability to act tactically is something that Adams and Hart were often knocked for, and in many ways Cotterill reminds me of them. In others ways, and not in a positive way, he also reminds me of Harry Redknapp.

An ability to change and influence a game with tactical moves, both with the players on the field at the time or the substitutions that he makes, is something that he still has to convince many he can do I think.

I am also not keen on his treatment, or apparent treatment, of the younger members of our squad - ok, fair enough at times some show why they might not quite be ready but to leave them out of a squad and prefer to have 3 or 4 players on the bench as a result is quite baffling! You do not need to use them but at least make them feel a part of the squad and give them that match experience. It annoys me too that he is quick to constantly highlight their shortcomings and brush them aside yet the senior members of the squad that offer little more, or any more at all, than them and constantly make balls ups that are not questioned is frustrating.

Despite all of this I am not in the 'get him out' camp and will continue to hope that he can mend his ways and turn things around - an acceptance at times that we just have not played well enough was the case for defeat and not a lack of numbers, poor displays from officials, a lack of fitness or bad lack, when that is not the case, would be good too.

Honesty is the way to go really and earns a lot more respect; well it does from me anyway!

I acn't understand anybody voting for "the man is clueless". What the hell can that be based on? The guy couldn't have done much more than he has with the heand that he has been dealt. Fans can be very quick to find fault and, worse than that, many seem intent on simply looking for something to find fault with in a person. What's the point? If some fans had their way we would be changing managers every couple of months and changing the team around almost every match, dropping players as soon as they have a poor game. It's ludicrous. I respect the fact that PompeyRug hasn't joined those that already want Cotterill out but why do we have to pick on somebody's idiosyncrasies in such a macro fashion. What does it add other than fueling a feeling of discontentment with the person concerned. Give him and the team a chance. It's tough enough at Pompey at the moment without finding fault with detail.

I agree with the article and tbh the vote. SC has disappointed in a few ways and yesterday from what I saw he responded and we can't ask for much more than that. He has made some obvious tactical errors and generally been late to see things, yesterday he hardly sat down and he was well managing- in a not like Hart or Adams way; I was really pleased. I always felt that we shouldn't really put the pressure on until mid October and I still think that is a reasonable milestone. I'm hoping that the signs that he has got on top of things aren't a flash in the pan; I was quite vociferous in his support.

I've been saying he should be given a chance all along, a fair crack of the whip, and after all he's really been up against it. I feel that the Leicester result vindicates that viewpoint.

Not convinced - I just dont see anything more than a one dimensional figure - with a one dimensional thought process. I'm afraid he is probably good at taking a Div 2 to Div 1 type club but not that he is confident and credible enough to take a bunch of very experienced and/ or premiership players and moulding a successful Champs side out of them. The questions are: (1) Is now the right time, is there enough time to find out (2) Is he a league winning, playoff, mid table, survival or relegation manager for us? (3) Is there someone better on the market willing to come here and do the job? Regardless of the Leic result I'm beginning to feel that 10 - 12 games is my limit and if I were making the decision now (i.e. we're no better off) and the answer to (3) us yes then we have to go for replacement. I'm not a fickle fan and I 'm not actually responding to the league placement, more what I've seen in interviews afterwards and some of the decisions during games.
