Nugent will get the goals? So says Lawrence

Nugent will get the goals? So says Lawrence

The way that he is going at present I would think that Dave Nugent would have trouble scoring even with one of Wayne Rooney's 'contacts', although this has not stopped him from being tipped to 'rediscover his goalscoring touch'...

Liam Lawrence, who 'feels' for Nugent, thinks that the 'willing runner' who is 'honest and runs all day' will soon start banging them in and is backing him to get into double figures!

So far with only 7 goals in 55 games, even if a lot of them have been as a 'wide attacker', this seems unlikely but Lawrence believes that if chances are continually fed to him that he will take them and is happy to see him working the keepers, as he did against Leicester.

Yep he is a willing runner and puts a good shift in but he also expends a lot of 'wasted energy' as I lose count of the number of times that his poor first touch, or miss-control, sees the ball get away from him with him then having to chase it.

We keep hoping that he will come good but sometimes you just get this feeling that something is not going to work out and it seems very much as though this will be the case with Dave Nugent and Portsmouth Football club?

I would still fully expect him to move on in some capacity in January, and if he does not then he almost certainly will at the end of the season when his contract expires...

What chance he pops up with a couple tomorrow night now I have said this?!

Rug you are correct, he can never be a frequent goal scorer, as he has NO natural first touch.

well i've backed him all season but he's destroyed my resolve over the last couple of games. He obviously has the quality to get into the right positions but not the quality or composure to take them... time to play kitson with utaka upfront i think

Twice now I've been standing behind the net and seen Nugent coming in on goal, his face goes to terror and confusion; just like Benji's used to before he got his mind right. Nugent is literally losing his nerve and control just as he shoots, he wasn't looking at where he was going to place the ball in the goal he was looking at the keeper; sort of like target fixation, eg: where your on your bike and you think you are going to hit something, you get fixated on it and stare at it and hit it, whereas if you had your mind right you would think to avoid it.

well done LL - you're doing the mature and right thing. May be if the crowd sang his name rather than rubbishing it it might lift the weight off his shoulders...
