'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Another month for Flahavan

With his initial 1-month contract coming to an end Darryl Flahavan has been handed, and signed, another month long deal to stay with Pompey.

When I saw the title 'Flahavan Extends Fratton Stay' I must admit I expected to be reading about a contract that took him through until the end of the year, or something like that...

Whilst I do not want to be too unkind to Jamie Ashdown, I must admit - despite him sometimes surprising me - I am not really convinced by him and whilst I would also not hold him too accountable for our defeats I think he 'could', not that I am a keeper of course, have done better with a number of goals we have conceded this season.

Given the fact that Tuesday night was a league cup game it would, albeit it few and far between, always be likely changes would be made so I am still surprised that Flahavan was not actually given a game as that would have, surely, been an ideal opportunity for him - right?

I wonder if a dead goalie propped up appropriately might give the defence more confidence.

I think the fact that Coles and other managers tried to get shot of Ashdowne speaks volumes.
