Lawrence deal in doubt?

Lawrence deal in doubt?

It would not be Pompey if there was not some 'doubt' about a deal would it?

Well, today has seen some doubt raised about Liam Lawrence's deadline day move to Pompey...

According to The Stoke Sentinel this deal went through AFTER the deadline: 'it is believed that Portsmouth lodged the paperwork for his transfer 15 minutes too late for it to be registered by the FA and Premier League.

'Discussions are still taking place between Portsmouth and football's top brass to find a loophole.'

I would say, and not playing the whole 'the world is against us' card - as can often be played, 'if' there is any doubt about this deal then 'little' slack will be given even though it seems clubs like Arsenal and Spurs, 'the bigger clubs', can sign players WELL after the deadline - several days in the case of Arsenal with Arshavin - and get away with 'technicalities'...

Although technicalities and incompetence are different things, and 'if' it was Portsmouth Football Club incompetence, as has often been the case in the past, then what can you do.

The local Stoke paper went on to say that we had a 'plan B' in place, although that will prove tricky to get round too: 'Portsmouth's plan B is thought to be an attempt to sign Lawrence on loan ahead of a permanent move when the transfer window re-opens in January.

'But there is a limit of two loan players from the same parent club and Pompey already have Stoke duo Ibrahima Sonko and Carl Dickinson on their books.'

As The Sentinel also said it would be 'an embarrassment to those dealing with the transfer at the Portsmouth end', that said I guess we are almost getting used to this are we not? And that - like an apparent acceptance of defeat in the players' mind - is becoming the norm and anything other is 'unusual!'

All we can do now is keep our fingers crossed and hope that 'reports' that are surfacing are not that accurate, although the fact that we have not 'officially', as such, had Lawrence confirmed is itself a bit of a worry...

This is a proper joke. The deal was on the table for at least a week before the end of the transfer window, so why leave until the very last minute to get the paperwork in!

Surely though we could also claim 'technical problems' like Spuds did with the RVDV signing? Oh, I forgot. They are a big Premier league club so the rules don't count.

Surely the paperwork can only be submitted when all the signatures are present, and LL didn't agree until the last minute, hardly ''an embarrassment to those dealing with the transfer at the Portsmouth end". Also Tommy Smiths deal has still not been signed off by the authorities. Happy days. PUP

Sorry, my sympathy for Pompey has run out. The excuse given is that he was training with the RoI squad - so why didn't somebody fly over to get his signature?

actually arent we being a bit harsh - practically EVERYONE, including LL himself said that he left it until the last moment to be convinced to leave Stoke - now i have no problem with that as he loves the club and loyalty to Stoke over a club he hasnt joined yet to me is a good thing - but given that - is it no wonder we might have been late??? Are we not a bit too quick on the depression negativity here? I'd be gutted if he didnt show up here now - I have high hopes for him - but I'm not goign to get ont he clubs back about it... if other clubs with huge teams of people and budgets can fudge it and be late so can we... surely the argument that he was on international duty holds some water?

So, should he go on loan until a permanent move in January, does that mean a fee has to be paid for the loan and then to make it permanent or will that be waived and he will then join up as part payment for Wilson as first agreed, as after all he was part of the Wilson deal!!

Seems a bit of a shambles, the club know the rules. Surely the Nugent / Blackpool saga must have rung some bells.

does that not invalidate the wilson deal? or does that mean lawrence is our player but he is ineligible to play?
