Kanu signs on for 3-years!

Kanu signs on for 3-years!

Nothing have been 'officially' confirmed yet although it is commonly believed, with sky sports news 'understanding' - among others, that Kanu has put pen to paper on his new Pompey deal.

A 3-year contract had been mentioned and it is 'said' that it is indeed a 3-year deal that The King has signed?

This may sound ludicrous, especially as he is already 62 - unofficially 34 - although a 3-year contract on £10,000 per week is better than a 1-year deal on £30,000 per week. Yep I know we pay that money anyway, after 3-years, although it offers him stability and allows us to benefit from his qualities.

It is also commonly believed that his contract allows him to move into coaching over this time period, and lets face it the benefits of having him coach our players, so long as they do not pick up a too casual approach, would be fantastic - we also have the benefits of what his draw could do for us player recruitment wise, lets not underestimate just what pull The King has in Africa.

Quite if this contract was signed, if indeed it actually was, in time for him to be available to face Cardiff remains to be seen?

I guess we will find out soon enough...

The BBC's live text (down at 14:16) says that Kanu hasn't signed yet - thought it odd that this hadn't appeared on the OS. Looks like Sky and The News jumped the gun!

Topping last seasons tally the aim

78pts was only enough for a play-off place last season so you suspect we'll have to better that for a top 3 finish this coming season, which begins with Carlisle at Fratton.

Done Deal - Smith in permanently from Swindon

The interest Pompey retained in Smith, with him 'in our sights' has resulted in him returning to the Blues on a permanent basis after signing for an 'undisclosed fee' from Swindon.

    Cushioning the blow

Much, that needed saying, about Webster's exit for Ipswich and the arrival of Clarke in return (and cash) has been said hasn't it? Doyle's been spot on with what he said.
