'If It's Football, It's Vital'

West Ham enter the Wilson race

According to sky sports news and what they 'understand' West Ham have joined the race to sign Marc Wilson.

West Brom have seen offers rejected, Fulham are 'keen' and Stoke 'appeared' to be in the driving seat although Uncle Avram is now looking to prise another body away from Pompey...

As a side issue, given West Ham's own highly publicised financial issues and debt - remember due to this their owners wanted players to take pay cuts not so long again! - I remain amazed at the amount of money they are being allowed to spend, on players and wages. Just you wait 'if' it all goes belly up the premier league to do a 'we did not see it coming' speech. Clearly the 'global brand', West Ham and basically football in general has not really gained anything from what has happened with us have they!

Anyway, moving on...

The problem that we may well face now, given the position that we are in, what is actually the best deal from a 'footballing' point of view may well not be the same as the best view from a 'financial' point of view.

As much as I like Wilson, and would be sad to see him leave, the offer of Liam Lawrence, Dave Kitson and some money is a cracking deal in reality isn't it?

So, upon reflection, this is a deal to bite their arm off for!

As said the problem is the money offered on top of the players from Stoke, which would not be much I doubt - certainly not the £3m plus these players. So, if a straight up offer of £4m or more came in from West Brom, West Ham or anyone else it is 'more likely' that this would be accept I suspect...

Providing we can bring in both those players, and at £10,000 per week maximum each, and they agreed to this, from that footballing point of view I would 'think' we could just about see a pair of players, decent players at that, earning what Wilson was alone?!

So, we not only increase the bodies we have in the squad the 'chances' are we would not actually be paying out any more wages wise - give the new contract that he signed back along it would not surprise me if we would actually save money given our track record of money we threw at players!

The certainty is Wilson WILL leave; we just have to hope that a balancing act between a deal in the best interests of the club all-round can be struck...

I see SC is now saying he wants it to be Stoke so that he can choose the best deal. One that we the fans will like.

Has anyone thought about the fact that we could get Begovic back as part of the deal? That would be good in my eyes!

well for a start AA said we valued Wilson at £5mil plus, so he ain't going no where unless an offer of at least that comes in from 1 of the others and i really don't see West Ham or West Brom paying that much, but surely common sense has to prevail in this situation and we'll take Stokes offer, unless stupid money is offered by someone else. 1 thing about the £3mil quoted offer from stoke, it was 1st mentioned by the BBC and lets be fair they're usually pretty accurate with their reports so i wouldn't rubbish it too much, but i think 1 or 2 mil would be closer to the truth

£3M, Kitson and Lawrence. That'll do nicely!

I'm resigned to losing Wilson, I have no knowledge of Lawrence and Kitson seems to have been out of the picture for sometime, I only hope that we get a deal that will benefit the club, at the moment i'm not sure we will.

the offer is kitson lawrance and just under 1m ..... i would still take the deal.. kitson value 2m lawrence 2m so not bad deal...

I wouldn't take £1m for Wilson that is a poor deal; we are not being given the Stoke players we are being loaned them so their is no £2m each value as mentioned above. £3mplus the loans is a good deal. TBh I now get worried when Cotterille talks about delighting the fans; his overstatements tend to bounce back on him.

Isn't it the case that if we accept a transfer fee it'll go into the PFC running pot? Two players in the hand are better than none on the field (sorry about the misquote!)
