Lawrence, Kitson and cash for Wilson?

Lawrence, Kitson and cash for Wilson?

The latest Stoke player that has been 'linked' with Pompey is Liam Lawrence.

Sky sports news 'understands' that he is in talks with Pompey to come to Fratton as part of the deal that would take Marc Wilson to Stoke. Other 'reports' on t'internet say that Stoke's chairman Peter Coates has confirmed as much too.

To be fair to Lawrence he is a good footballer and would do a good job for us, of course 'if' he wanted to be here? Dave Kitson is another that continues to 'talk' with Pompey apparently with him also part of the deal.

Would one, or both, drop their wages significantly - as I suspect they would have to - to join us though? Then again are these only loan deals! Which I would assume they are not as we can only have 2 players in on loan over the age of 23, right? This quota has already been filled...

Despite all the 'Wilson is leaving' thoughts, which I am sure he will, Admin Andy, talking to The News this afternoon, 'insists' that Wilson WILL NOT be sold before the weekend. Well, that is if he is even sold at all.

He said that Wilson, or his agent, have not expressed a desire to leave so its not nailed on that he will - although I reckon he will, even if he does not entirely want to...

He said that unless the £5m plus valuation is met he will not be sold, and it is not 'essential' that he is sold anyway at the moment despite the £4m shortfall on what is needed to be raised to pay of the CVA.

Despite all of this The News is now 'claiming' that 'club sources' have confirmed that the deal is on, both will sign with us also getting a 'small fee' for Wilson...

He also said, all being well, Kanu will finally have sorted out his contract dispute by the weekend and will be a part of the squad to face Cardiff.

It 'seems' as though the 3-year contract worth £10,000 per week has been agreed as a compromise to a 1-year contract at £30,000 per week?

The King would be pushing on for 100 by the time his contract runs out I reckon...

i would conceede that 'if' kitson and lawrence are taking payment of £10,000 absolute maximum per week and we get both tied down to contracts and also get some money for wilson then that is a decent deal tbh...

I'd agree with you rug. However, I can see no point in re-signing Kanu. He dosen't have the legs or strength for this division. i know we are desperate for players, especially strikers, but with Kitson coming in, do we need Kanu?
    26/08/2010 14:37:00
I would agree that it sounds like a good deal provided that we aren't paying them more than the 10k. AA has said that we need £4M before the deadline though, so where will that come from?
    26/08/2010 14:39:00
3 year deal for kanu !!! lets hope someone else signes him next year from us then 1p
    26/08/2010 14:41:00
theres a very important phrase used in the news article talking about Kanus deal and its "That included provisions for him to turn to coaching as his career winds down." so 3 years isn't as stupid as it sounds if ya ask me, he'll make a damn good striking coach imo. As for Wilson it does seem he's as good as gone which is a shame but i don't think we can complain if we get both kitson and lawrence and its not like we're short of central mids lol

Hand biting if off for Kitson and Lawrence. The whole Wilson deal reminds me of Diarra. A good player (obviously Diarra much beeter), but both are playing in a team that makes them look better than they actually are.

lots of people on the News site moaning about Wilson going. no one wants to see him go, but only 1 month ago, we would have given him away to keep pompey trading. So if selling him and getting 2 additions to the side then it sounds good business to me. As long as we can put a team together to keep us in the pack till januray when we hopefully should have a brighter future.... its a no brainer to me to be honest

Potters are saying it's £3.5m plus two players with their salaries heavily subsidised by Stoke- seems there is discussion about sell on. Re Kanu, I think Slaka played in 4,4,2 would ultimately be more useful and if he scores he becomes marketable, the salary cap issue is still present but we have to pay slaka anywhere.

I think this is a good deal and let's try and tie it up before the weekend, as Wilson won't play on Saturday because of the fear of injury.
    26/08/2010 15:14:00
If thats the deal for a very ordinary Wilson, then bite their arms off at the torso!!
