'Its time for Kanu to either sign the contract being put in front of him or we tell him to move on', not my vote, yours - although these findings from pompeyrug's poll are thoughts that I agree with to be honest...
I can see the benefits of retaining Kanu even if I again, as I do every summer, thought it was time for him to move on - although the drawn out saga that we see with The King each summer has reached epic proportions this time, yet we are still none the wiser as to what is happening with him!
To be honest it is not just his ability on the field, which is beginning to wane of course, it is what he can offer us off it to that appeals to me. We cannot underestimate the power and respect that the guy earns, so 'if' he is attracting the right kind of players we could see Africans, in a shorter number than we have in the past, making their way to Fratton in the future as they would follow The King.
Having given David James and Rocha John Rocha ultimatums on new contracts it is surely time that the same applied to Kanu?
Is this not double standards, giving them a deadline saying 'we cannot wait around' get we seem to be waiting an age for him...
Although I suspect, in fact I am certain, it is not that straightforward is it.
He, or at least his people, seem to feel that he has a 'verbal agreement' on his previous deal of some £30,000 per week or so should come into play - we cannot, and do not, want to give him that for obvious reasons!
Whatever issues are holding this up need to be sorted, if it cannot be proven he has a 'cast iron offer on the same money' then it is way beyond time he is told to sign or he leaves.
Lets face it, with all due respect, for me what would have been more important players - over the course of a season - have already been told to go if they did not sign, Kanu is not indispensible...
