'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Time to give Kanu an ultimatum too!

'Its time for Kanu to either sign the contract being put in front of him or we tell him to move on', not my vote, yours - although these findings from pompeyrug's poll are thoughts that I agree with to be honest...

I can see the benefits of retaining Kanu even if I again, as I do every summer, thought it was time for him to move on - although the drawn out saga that we see with The King each summer has reached epic proportions this time, yet we are still none the wiser as to what is happening with him!

To be honest it is not just his ability on the field, which is beginning to wane of course, it is what he can offer us off it to that appeals to me. We cannot underestimate the power and respect that the guy earns, so 'if' he is attracting the right kind of players we could see Africans, in a shorter number than we have in the past, making their way to Fratton in the future as they would follow The King.

Having given David James and Rocha John Rocha ultimatums on new contracts it is surely time that the same applied to Kanu?

Is this not double standards, giving them a deadline saying 'we cannot wait around' get we seem to be waiting an age for him...

Although I suspect, in fact I am certain, it is not that straightforward is it.

He, or at least his people, seem to feel that he has a 'verbal agreement' on his previous deal of some £30,000 per week or so should come into play - we cannot, and do not, want to give him that for obvious reasons!

Whatever issues are holding this up need to be sorted, if it cannot be proven he has a 'cast iron offer on the same money' then it is way beyond time he is told to sign or he leaves.

Lets face it, with all due respect, for me what would have been more important players - over the course of a season - have already been told to go if they did not sign, Kanu is not indispensible...

  • What the poll asked - Is it time to tell Kanu to sign or move on?

  • How you voted - Yep 83%
Are we in a position to do that? 12%
    Nope 5%

Before we move on what are your thoughts on what the last poll concluded? You know what to do, thoughts below please guys...

Get rid of him, every season Kanu and his agent dictate to us what is going to happen, usually resulting in him not training or taking any part in pre-season. Way past his best, like the others, either sign or go!!

these players keep Pompey hanging on hoping for a better deal elsewhere, Rocha will find a club, and AVB will too, but Kanu...i doubt he will find anything better.. I have not seen a game this season, but i have not been impressed with the stoke players so far from what i have read, or seen of them before..any one know a way of watching games /highlights on line opposed to the 30 seconds on the BBC FL show

He, or his advisors, reckon that King can do as good a job as Nugent at the moment and so are hanging onto this vague promise of a similar wage of £30k pw rather than Pompey's offer of £10k pw. Surely we know by now whether we are obliged to offer the contract extension. Either way, it is time for King himself to decide.

My thoughts are of a player who thinks he is still the player he used to be trying to get his last wage packet. Or perhaps he is a sad old git who is unable to find anybody else willing to take him on.

Just negotiate - no hard feelings, here's our upper limit, if you come, go for it if not thanks for some GREAT memories. Personally he's exactly what we need, experience and aspiration on the training pitch and someone who in this division could drop deeper and offer a little bit of strength and quality we need. Surely we can play into feet in front of ay back four in the champ and pick up a wealth of nicely placed free kicks.

Writing "whatever needs sorting" is a damn site easier than sorting it so in that context the vote is a little irrelevant ( sorry Rug). What is absolutely wrong is that no agreement has been arranged whereby he can pay as you play with a no assumed contract commitment clause; if he refuses that then it should be made clear he is not welcome.

Seems to me we can't afford to be picky at the moment, and Agents realise this.
    gandor1
the number of players out there we can be a little picky. I don't think we need to get all sign up or get out about it... but as an old friend used to say - time is rapidly approaching that you ***** or get off the pot

hope others cannot afford him, he is quality and we need him. I would love to have had Rocha and AVB, it seems we really will be lucky to attract anything worthy in our predicament. Chanrai is not the real thing, I'm convinced he cannot change his spots. Hold on guys, its gonna get rougher yet.

Lampitt said on the football hour that Kanu does have the right to a one year deal, on pre-agreed wages. The club cannot just release him from it. They are trying to persuade him to take a deal on less wages, and have sweetened it by making it a 3 year deal. The only thing they can do to force his hand is to say he won't play unless he signs it. Stalemate. But we did have players who were willing to take cuts last season because they understood the club's situation and wanted to play at all costs. Pity the King is not an equally honorable man.

let's not jump to any conclusions - the guy might just want an extended holiday
