No Vanden Borre return

I had hoped that Anthony Vanden Borre would return to Pompey on loan as he was a player that REALLY grew on my last season and would have a fantastic time in the no power league methinks, although I am not 'really' surprised that he is not.

From the outset it 'seemed' pretty clear that a return to Pompey was not his first choice, 'word on the street' was saying this pretty loudly from what I was hearing. So, in all honesty, I was actually surprised that we got as far as him coming over and 'looking around', as I was not even expecting that.

The fact that he did made you think 'maybe' we would get him back, quite why he had to 'look around' the club - having spent last season on loan with us - does not really make sense? A cynical person would say this was done merely to make others aware of the fact that he was available and could move on...

Steve Cotterill seemed quite confident towards the end of last week he would return, but now admits it was a 'bit of a time waster really' and has 'slowed down the recruitment process a little bit' but understands the Belgium international 'is thinking about his career and where he wants it to go.'

It is 'said' that he is now off to Cologne in Germany.

As said it would have been nice to get him back but as Cotterill himself said if he did not want to be here then we do not want players like that - as I keep stressing, as we all know really, we need players that are 100% committed, if they are not, even if they have superior quality to others are they really worth anymore than the youngsters that we have at the club that are already involved?

I know, speaking for myself, that I would much rather see so-called 'lesser players' giving it everything, and more, than higher quality players - almost certainly bringing in much more money - but not caring as much, I think we have seen more than enough of that in recent years...

Agree totally. It would be good if Rocha will rejoin us tho and link up again with Mokoena. It wouldn't be a bad back four then I guess with Sonko and Dickenson in the mix. Hopefully with Joel Ward (and Wilson if needed) to drop in should there be injuries or in the case of Rocha more like suspension. Like Cotterill's apporach of 'only be here if you want to play for us'. With the pay freeze at 'only £10k per week' (poor buggers having to somehow survive on that disgustingly low amount per week, ergh but I won't get started on that issue) then hopefully its more about getting grafters in who will fight for the club.

Gotta agree but Tony VB was a good player who could become better. Good luck to him but let's move on,
