Steve Cotterill has confirmed, when talking to The News, that Sam Sodje is training with Pompey at the moment: 'we have just brought Sam in to do a bit of training with us and see where he is.
'He's just somebody out there at the moment on a free.'
There is of course no harm whatsoever in looking at the guy, a Nigerian international defender, although would I would be slightly concerned about is the fact that having left Charlton for Greek club Skoda Xanthi in the summer, how come his contract was 'cancelled by mutual consent' after just a month...
We need numbers, but we also need to make sure what we bring in is better than what we already have?
If Sodje is that then so be it, although, and I might be wrong, part of my tends to lean in favour of someone like Joel Ward to act as central defensive cover.
I say this because we know, without a doubt, that the local lad will give 100% whenever called upon and does want to play for us - also, and to be fair, the guy does look a decent prospect, just not as a midfielder!
One player that does NOT want to leave at all though is Matty Ritchie, who yesterday told The News that until he is told by the club they no longer want him he will not leave for anyone.
It is well documented that I am a Ritchie fan, and with that sort of attitude, coupled with a fair amount of ability WHY would we want to let him leave! Although leave is something that Kevin-Prince Boateng does now 'appear' to have done?
His move away from Pompey was a bizarre one - he was joining Genoa, then joining Genoa to be loaned to Milan, yet it is now 'claimed' that he has simply joined Milan for £5.5m and has already started training with them?
We have nothing official yet though...
Although contrary to what one site on t'internet said he WOULD NOT become the first championship player to leave that level for a club such as Milan - Mark Hateley left Fratton for exactly the same move in the 80s, when we were the equivalent to a championship side when we were part of the old second division.
PLAY UP POMPEY!
