I remember going to Bristol City. Very intimidating atmosphere as Docker Hughes had died during the close season so the 6.57 boys decided to "honour him" with mass fighting in the stands and firecrackers reverberated on the concrete terracing where we stood.
My mate's new girlfriend was attending her first (and only) game and he had to walk her back to my car before the match had even started, listening to it on the radio and waiting for me to return after the match!
If memory serves me correctly, Andy Cole (later of Newcastle, Man Utd and Pompey fame) also got a hat-trick to ruin Whittingham's (and our) day!

I remember the first time I saw Pompey play a top flight game!! What a let down stuffed 4-2 and only 8,000 there. Was also at Norwich 1970!!
