Pompey sign that much needed left back!

Pompey sign that much needed left back!

Pompey have clearly been in need of a left back, and this has now been secured with Carl Dickinson signing on a season long loan from Stoke.

Steve Cotterill had said that he had a player lined up, that no one knew about, and it would 'seem' that Dickinson is this player as it was not until this morning that 'rumours' started to filter through...

Well, the 23-year-old is now secured and he 'could', I would think, make his debut tomorrow?

Cotterill, talking on The Pompey Site, thinks he will become a 'fans favourite' at Fratton: 'Carl's a player I've tracked for a little while and I'm delighted that we've been able to bring him to Pompey.

'He's a good young player with Premier League experience and he played a lot of Championship games when Stoke won promotion in 2008.

'It might take him a few games to get going but he's a good lad and I can see him becoming a fans' favourite down here.'

Hopefully he can live up to his billing eh!

Although Matty Ritchie has done a decent job at left back it is fairly clear that his talents would be better served higher up the pitch so I just hope that Dickinson's arrival does not mean that Matty drops out of the side completely?

Sadly I fear that he will, not that he should!

I sure as hell know who I would rather playing on the left side of midfield/wing, and it is not that Nigerian waste of space that we have...

It could be Hughesie that drops to the bench. Either way it gives Cotts more options if plan A doesn't work.

More experienced players in can (hopefully) only be a good thing - no reason to doubt Cotts' judgement, so welcome Carl!

Yep, happy with this. I really would like to see the "Torpedo" in the middle and get those runs going - he should scare the No power league defences to death with his pace, Cheer him on the pitch boys, he is in a blue shirt after all, I forgive him everything after the pass to Kanu that got us the cup! (If nothing happens after 70 minutes, the boo with the best of 'em).

Stokey fan has just told me 'Lucky you - solid defender and popular with the fans' - sound the type we are looking for.

Carl Dickinson is a real good bit of News, why the hell he came i dont know; Terraceman i agree, in the middle is where he should be and 4442 shows it. Give him a couple of chances to prove and maybe even get a goal or two. If it doesnt work, then his next position should still be in the middle, but on of Row F on an airplane somewhere.

Things are starting to look up for you at last. Just need the new owner to sign and we may still have some competition next year in CCC. :>)

    Chesterfield's O'Shea targeted

Although so far Pompey have had two bids turned down for Chesterfield's O'Shea. Will, assuming another bid (as it's expected) is made, it be third time luck for the Blues?

It wasn't Real Madrid but Bristol City isn't bad!

Contrary to what I just wrote (muppet that I am) this isn't at Fratton this is at Ashton Gate with Pompey heading to Bristol City on Saturday 30th July, with a 3pm kick-off.
