Four is magic number

Four is magic number

4 new arrivals, all in a loan capacity and all defenders, is what Steve Cotterill is targeting, as he told sky sports following our league cup win.

Central midfielder is not an area we a lacking, but defensively we are and season long loan deals for some defenders, mainly full backs I would think, is what he is targeting: 'hopefully there will be a couple more that will come across the line this week.

'We are very lopsided at the club. The squad has been put together, we are overstocked with central midfielders and we haven't got a defender.

'We will get probably four players on loan this year and three of them will be defenders who will play in our team.'

With Kevin-Prince Boateng 'said' to be undergoing a medical with Genoa it is 'thought' that a deal involving Anthony Vanden Borre returning to Fratton is 'possible'.

A return for the Belgium international was something that had been expressed earlier in the summer but nothing looked like happening and he was actually 'linked' with other clubs, as far as I am aware nothing has been sorted yet so I would happily welcome him back as I thought he grew into a very good player as last season went on and would do a fine job at right back.

One player that 'should' have made a Fratton move was Stephen Jordan, although he changed his mind and decided to move to Sheff United instead - this did not please Cotterill: 'I'm very disappointed in him - but that's him. He knows my feelings and thoughts.

'My thoughts about Stephen Jordan will stay with him.'

I think Jordan acted in a terrible way, although that is the modern day footballer for you really isn't it! All in all though this proved that he did not want to be here though so I am glad that he is not!

One man that he still hopes to see return is Kanu, with him also 'hoping' for some 'leniency' from the football league so we can bring in some players: 'hopefully we can have a bit of leniency to get a few. But the next issue then becomes getting a few. That is more difficult than it looks.

'We're hopeful with King (Kanu). I'm not the one dealing with him, though. If I was sat down with him I'd have a better idea. I'm not the one doing that.'

Clearly a left back is a high priority, a right back could also come in and another central defender, although to be honest I would think full backs would be the main priority - in an ideal world we would also bring in another striker, which would be Kanu I guess?

If Vaden Borre comes back on loan I will be very happy. He really started to look quite good towards the end of last season.

If Herman signs a new contract would he not count as the left back? Obviously I know he is injured, but he will be fit beofre january won't he?

I can't see Kanu having a massive impact this season, he's a luxury player who does a brilliant job when your 2-0 up with 20 to play and you need someone to just hold the ball up and frustrate teams. I don't think he'll be playing 40 odd games and all for 90 minutes, especially at 60!

Borre is a great player who can play either as right back and right midfield. Hermann is out till October yes, and I can see him as our permanant left back. Until then, Mullins will play there if Borre comes along. I read that Genoa will pay us £5.5 + Borre for Boateng. I think it is too much what they are offering as no one wanted to pay too much for him. Good luck to us if it does happen.

Apparently no, the Borre deal and Boateng's are being lined up separtely. I do not believe so. If they were, why Borre was being metioned now that Prince had his medical?

I really wouldnt think a player of the quality of bellamy would want to come to the championship, Especially a place where his wages might be in danger. xD But if he does. I see us either 1st or 2nd. With him scoring 50 goals :P But are you just hoping he does or are there actually rumours?

    No Crawley return for Tubbs

Tubbs doesn't have a future at Pompey, he's on the transfer-list but offloading him could be difficult given his wages. These wouldn't be anywhere within Crawley's reach.

    Lassie coming home...well sort of!

A-box-to-box player, capable of defensive duties, with ability to burst forward with intent to make things happen - Diarra is Pompey's man and wants an England return. I jest of course!

It's been made (more than once) clear by Catlin Pompey want Davies & Hollands to stay. Both (also more than once) have said they want to this - deals have to be right for all concerned.
