Jordan 'set' to be Cotterill's next signing

I am not quite sure if he will play tomorrow or not, although if he does then I think that would all but confirm things, but Stephen Jordan is 'expected' to sign for Pompey anytime now...

Earlier on Friday Steve Cotterill, well confirmed this anyway I guess, telling The News that the left back would be signing and could by the weekend, I assume he means the end of: 'Stephen was not ready to play against Bournemouth after nicking his calf.

'But, in the meantime, that calf won't stop me going ahead with a permanent signing.

'We need numbers, we absolutely need numbers, so hopefully he will be okay and he might be signed by the weekend.'

My concerns, with the amount of injuries Jordan has suffered over the past couple of years - and he has picked up and injury whilst on trial with us! - are that he 'might' break down again?

That said are we really in a position to be too picky and choosey about players!

What I would say is I have been impressed by his attitude and commitment, and having these traits is something we need this season. He was asked, at short notice, to come to America with us and he did this no questions asked - that is good enough for me.

I know, if he can stay fit, we would be signing a very good footballer.

Another that is 'set' to come in is Jamie Ashdown.

He has impressed Cotterill during his 'trial' so a fresh contract is seemingly within his grasp at Fratton - he will play tomorrow: 'with Jamie, I just want to make sure he is okay. He knows the score. I've told him I want to look at him over the three games.

'He has done fantastically well and it will be nice for him to perhaps be number one and not sat on his backside.

'He has trained like a Trojan and come back and looks in great shape. He just needs games.'

Perhaps it is better the devil you know with Jamie, although - and it is nothing personal against him - I have some reservations about his fitness and his ability, but again beggars cannot be choosers can they, and we are very much beggars at this stage...

" we need numbers" not exactly a glowing to the man.

He was injured against Fulham. That is why he didn't play.
