'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Will Mokoena's heart and mind be the same?

Aaron Mokoena has admitted that his 'heart' still belongs to Pompey, although 'reported' offers from the premier league and abroad have left him with some thinking to do...

He says, as quoted on sky sports, that 3 premier league clubs - with West Ham and Bolton 'said' to be among them, a couple of Qatari and one from Turkey have all shown an interest in him.

So, he will 'assess' the situation before deciding what to do: 'I have to confess my heart is still there at Portsmouth and they are offering me a new contract if I remain with the club.

'I can confirm that there are a number of offers from several big clubs - three in the English Premiership, two in Qatar and one in Turkey.

'There are a number of things I am still assessing, though, and I will decide sometime next week.'

Moko was a figure of ridicule from his early days at Fratton but he became a cult hero by the time last season ended.

I, along with many others I am sure, would really like the guy to stay, and from the sounds of it this is something he would do. I guess a lot depends on what happens at the end of this week?

That said even if, well I should say when, HMRC appeal this may not 'necessarily' impact on his decision, although you would think it would play a big part in it...

Come on Moko, follow your heart and stay with us - where else would you get this sung about you: 'who needs a Messi when you've got a Mokoena!'

A player that 'almost certainly' will not be here next season, according to further 'reports', is Tal Ben-Haim as he will complete a move to West Ham or an 'unnamed' Greek club by the end of the week.

Further 'reports' are saying that David James has been given 24-hours to accept a player-coach contract on offer...although it is also 'said' that a 'coaching role' is not part of the contract anyway?

A new contract? I thought that he had another two years left. Are we asking him to take a pay-cut or was there a relegation clause?
wellyit
Either way, we need him in the centre of our defence.

Would be good to see Mok sta.. along with Rocha as well of course... and it's all quiet on him innit ?

It's down to two things: 1, Cash- where can he get the most; probably in Qatar. 2, where is he going to get the most games to keep in with a chance of captaining in the ACoN that is the tricky one, it's either Pompey or Qatar. I don't see him as a first class player and think he will be on the bench a lot in the PL.

It is all too quiet but I suppose with an embargo in place what do we expect. We need the CVA in place and that looks unlikely with the HMRC playing brinksmanship until the end of the week. Get your boots out lads that is my advice to fans.

Now I know I should have got over being a Peter Storrie non real Pompey fan but- I haven't so why was Haim taken on at circa £38k per week when Storrie new that was unsustainable at that time? Why also when a relegation clause wa inserted was a salary cap not inserted? These are apparently standard but Storrie didn't make it happen. Next question is why is Storrie still at the club? Linked to that, the final questions; if Lampitt is so inexperienced in the goings on in football dealings; why was he employed and should he have been?
russellm
No big surprise Ben Haim has not elected to activate his relegation release clause; I can't think of 38,000.00 weekly reasons why. It would be comical if it wasn't so tragic.

why has mokoena been talking to other clubs !! he cant do that or go anywhere untill we accept an offer from a club... otherwise he stays... hes worth 1.5m at least if they bid 2m accept it....
pompeyhussler
as for ben haim at least we are offering him for free hes on 38k 1 year deal which is 1.8million , , , when hes worth about 2-3m hull want 4m for bullard and hes on 45k a week 4 year deal or summin which is 8.8 million ... lol gd luck

Sorry, this comment isn't about this article. But I just had to laugh when I saw the Daily Mails article today, with HR telling Joe Cole, that football is not only about money. Thats priceless!!!!!!!!

If Mokoena's heart is still at Pompey after the way certain sections of fans treated him early on, then i shall be happy to see him stay. He showed remarkable spirit to overcome the boo boys and we shall need that kind of spirit before this nightmare is over.
