Nugent REALLY expected to stay...

Nugent REALLY expected to stay...

'Dave Nugent WILL still be here when we start the season at Coventry', not my vote, yours - although these findings from pompeyrug's poll are thoughts that I do not necessarily agree with to be honest...

Yep, I know that Nugent is 'said' to have told Steve Cotterill that he wants to stay, with Cotterill saying that he is determined to see this - and happy that he wants to, although I just cannot help but think there would be little 'arm twisting' needed if an offer came in for him.

I know it is cynical but I just cannot help but think should a genuine offer come in for him, assuming the money on offer was right, he would be off, and to be fair the club would 'probably' want this to...

I think he is out of contract at the end of the season, so chances are we will lose him then anyway, and on a free, with a transfer 'possibly' pre-arranged in January?

Forget what I think of the guy, and how this could change by some solid and committed performances, the major factor is he is on decent money that we cannot afford. That said at this point in time can we actually afford to sell him, given our transfer situation, which seems 'set' to stay as it is! Selling him though would be a must, no loaning out of him this season!

They say that everyone deserves a 'second chance', whilst I have been making it quite obviously in recent times that he will have to go some to win me over again, as said, should he offer up the sorts of performances that I want from those at the club this will go some way towards mending those bridges...

  • What the poll asked - Do you REALLY believe that Dave Nugent will be here come August 7th at Coventry?

  • How you voted - Yep 51%
    Nope 38%
    Time will tell... 11%

Before we move on what are your thoughts on what the last poll concluded? You know what to do, thoughts below please guys...

I read that we are interested in Nicky Hunt of Bolton. This could also mean that we part exchange Nuge with Hunt and get some cash aswell. However, I still think that we will keep him, we REALLY cannot afford to lose more firts team players! I personally am getting ready so if Cotterill needs numbers, I can make one of them. Anyone interested aswell?

Yep, ready to go Malta. I fancy myself as a striker, can't do any worse than what we've got, lol.

If an appeal against the CVA happens, we have to try and keep as many of the players as possible as we will not be allowed to replace them. We won't be paying the creditors until it is settled, so what is the rush.

Hasn't Chanrai said he'll buy the club regardless of an appeal? Is he allowed to buy the club during an appeal process?

Moley, I think he is 'willing to' buy the club reagardless. If he does so without a CVA, ie in admin, I think we get an automatic points deduction.

With regard to Nugent, for SC to play the 'we want him to stay' card is a win/win situation. If someone does want to buy him, then we can bargain for more money for him, than if he seems to be someone we want rid of. If nobody comes in for him (and there doesn't seem to be a queue) then at least it keeps him sweet and helps him to develop into the championship striker we know he can be - for us. After all if we do have to keep paying his wages, we might as well get some value for it.

That's a scary point you make Welly, I hadn't thought of that, I think you might be right!

I think its a no-brainer. If Nugent is happy to stay, then we cannot let him go. We need him, especially if he performs like he did when last in the Championship.

Video - Pompey 2-1 Leyton Orient

Conor Chaplin made up for missing a penalty - the third spot kick in a row I think we've missed isn't it? - with a brace as Pompey deservedly saw off Leyton Orient 2-1 at Fratton Park.
