Diop gets his move

The move from Pompey to AEK Athens for Papa Bouba Diop has been completed, with a compromise finally agreed with the Greek side.

Pompey wanted £1m, which actually turns out it was £1m euros - about £800,000, but AEK wanted him on a free...

An undisclosed fee, which The News says was £250,000, was eventually agreed so the midfielder has gone.

I think it would be fair, and not unfair - sorry Papa - to say that few will miss him as lets face it we rarely got the quality of performance from him that we would have expected, having seen what he had offered Fulham over the years before us.

That said to be fair I think, well was told, that he was continuing to play with injuries last season, so this was not helping him, or us...

We needed to get him off the wage bill, and whilst £250,000 is little in all honesty, when you think of the number of weeks we had, and could still, have paid him for doing nothing the longer this move dragged on and did not happen the more he cost - doing literally nothing - so the less we actually got anyway!

John Utaka is also 'said' to be close to joining him in leaving - once again getting him off the wage bill is a must, especially seen as he has had his summer break extended, which will see him paid, until we return from America after his world cup 'excursions'...

Another that we know will leave, and always was - hopefully for good money, it is just a matter of who to, is Kevin-Prince Boateng. Liverpool are now 'said' to be interested.

How is the totaliser totting up then to raise the £15M for the CVA? We must still be about 5 mil short for Thursday!

To be honest I was hoping Diop would stay. Yes I agree, he wasn't giving us too much, but I was expecting him to give us the strenght we require in midfield for the coming season. He would have been 'ok' this year against Championship sides. However, I also look forward to see new faces (?), the faces that Cotterill wants here for a different new era. Regarding Boateng, the club needs to ask a good price and won't let go if they don't get it. If the likes of Liverpool and others are interested, they must pay for one of the best performers in SA!

Malta you aren't quite accurate when you say Diop hasn't been giving us too much. In fact he hasn't given us anything but Oscar winning performances of rolling around injured. He never was much good and he is well past his sell by date, also he doesn't want to stay, so let him bugger off, where he can be a big girls blouse somewhere else.

I made no secret that I quite liked 'The Boub', every time he got the ball in a shooting position I was sure he'd hammer one home, and never did. When he first came to the club he looked solid, sharp and lived up to his nickname. Last season wasn't his best by far, but he played well in the Cup Final, and who knows, he could have been a hero if he'd taken that penalty.

Diop goes and Pompey save a fortune on excess baggage cost to to USA. Now let's get Utaka gone and hope Chan or A N Other owner pays up the difference in the shortfall between what we get and the £15 mill the CVA says is needed.

I cant say as i really mind Papa moving on, he has been a bit of a Lame duck since he got here, never really seen a startling performance from him, unless you count rolling around on the ground, Glad on one hand that UTAKA is going, his wages will be ridiculous, but thought he could have caused a lot of damage in the Chamionship, never mind. BOATENG has to go, we can only hold out for so long, so someone may well still get a bit of a bargain!!! Only a couple of days to go now, hope and pray and have fingers crossed that there will not be an appeal!!!
