James offered player-coach role?

I have not trawled through t'internet for anything more on this but according to something that I saw on sky sports news David James has been offered a player-coach role?

Leaving Pompey is something that many 'hope' James does not do, although at the same time many of us have been expecting this - to be honest I was almost 100% certain that he would leave.

Whilst I am still not convinced that he will stay, the 'talk' in the past few days has become more positive, so you can never say never I guess.

The offer of a player-coach position was something that many also thought had to be on the table for him to seriously consider staying at Fratton, so 'if' these 'reports' are true this is what we have done.

Whatever the deal is Jamo cannot sign a contract, if he is going to, until the CVA is 100% verified and our transfer embargo lifted, which - if all goes to plan - is looking like being the end of next week, at the earliest.

Goes news if true and it probably means he wouldn't suffer too much of a pay cut either .. two salaries, for two jobs (net effect to Pompey = Zero.. he gets some training, and experience.. Cotterill gets a No2 .. everybody wins.. Lets hope it is true

agreed its "Goes news" if true. im happy to trawl the media world and have a look

This will be awesome if it is true, I dont think we can underestimate how much value he could be to us in the coming season

Win win Chix, your dead right, this is probably the only way they could justify going over the self imposed ten thou salary cap, pretty clever really, plus James likes where Pompey is, its easier for him, he loves the club, and theres no way he doesnt love the support, so I reckon its looking quite rosy
NZ_Portsmuff
Couldnt find it on sky, they are obsessed with Web and Torres, however im reluably informed the rumour in the pubs near the ground seems to be the same. Jamo to think on it's options - unless your a news journalist and then its James to agonize about the decision

I am pershonly inveshtigating

Chix is dead right for once!!! Jamo has so much experience to pass on to younger players it makes sense to hang on to him.

it makes sense... but when does sense come into football?! lol. man sheity to buy him.

Well we can't offer him premier league football or wages, but he knows that and still came in to talk, so that's a positive for starters. We can certainly offer him 1st choice keeper, which prem clubs may or may not be able to. But this player/coach option may be our trump card - that and the fact that he likes Pompey, so lets just hope Lampitt and Cotterill are playing their cards right!

This would be a very positive move for the club!

Listening to the SC interview on The Quay it was clear he felt that James should concentrate on playing for a year and was probably not ready for a coaching role. As someone said last night, why does James need Pompey to pay for him- he literally has more money than the club! I think it will be more down to training attendance flexibility that the Prem teams can't offer.

David Nugent was on target as Portsmouth began preparations for life in the Championship with a 2-1 win against neighbours Havant & Waterlooville.
