Pompey's best premier keeper was...

David James!

'Jamo was the best keeper that we had during our premier league years', not my vote, yours - although these findings from the forum poll to determine who was our stand out man between the sticks during the 7-year stay on the premier league...

The premier league years have brought us many ups and downs and many good and bad players; we focus on the good here though!

It is fair to say that James is right up there with the best keepers that we have had, right? Many would say that he is our best keeper full stop - I think it has to be mighty close to being that case in all honesty.

The England international - will he become 'former international' next season though? - has, for me, totally changed my opinion on him during his time with Pompey, something that may well be coming to an end any day now...That 'calamity' tag that he had is something that I think many fans DO retain until he plays for YOUR club - yep he has made mistakes with us, but you show me a keeper that does not? I could count on one hand the number of genuine, no two ways about it, the fault lays at his door mistakes.

I think that he would be worth 10-20pts for us this season in the no power league and would help the continued development of Liam O'Brien, although I am struggling to believe that Jamo will stay with us this season, but fingers crossed...

Speaking purely for myself I think that a mention also need to go to Shaka Hislop - he always played the game with a smile and was fantastic during his time with us. For me he was discarded too soon, but hey ho.

Mr Hollywood WINS ! I'll never forget when during our usual pre season friendly fund raiser for Bournemouth Grant was trying to get Kiely to kick the ball so it went roughly in the direction it was meant to. Kiely basically ignored him, then was bludy rude to Grant, the basically told to Grant to efoff. Kiely kicked five balls directly into touch in that game. Then made his Hollywood goal keeper speach- whattaguy !

i remember the 'hollywood keeper' comments from kiely...i felt abit sorry for him but he was not a patch on jamo, infact i didnt really like the guy anyway.

I'm not surprised Jamo won by a country mile but come on, Shaka was streets ahead of Ashdown.

Jamo definately deserved it, Shaka was good and Ashdown has been an ever present for us who has always stood up when needed

Jamo is the best in the country. But I would have loved to see Bego playing for us this season!

Jamo was miles away the best keeper - I think that we have ever had (sorry Knightsie) but I did used to like Shaka Hislop as well.

the vote for ashdown was cast 'accidently' so i guess technically shaka did get 14% of the vote, which is fairer...

Well done for ignoring Pavel Srnicek. On the 6th January 2004 at Villa Park he gave what I consider to be one of the worst performances I have seen from a Pompey and helped gift the opposition a 2-1 victory. His perfromance was shakey at best. Chalkias performance at Highbury when he gifted Thierry Henry a hat trick prompted a mass walk out from Pompey fans but not before a chorus of 'you don't know what you're doing'!
