Pompey at the world cup - David James

Pompey at the world cup - David James

England meetings with Germany are always a big thing, although for some they are nothing special. Methinks more than an element of 'gamesmanship' is being employed when saying this somehow...

Germany just 'another game' for James

It 'seems' as though David James may have decided that he does indeed want to become another of those that will become 'former Pompey player' when referred to after the summer, after 'apparently' expressing a desire to continue playing in the premier league - obviously not something that we will be doing for at least a season...

Even so, and whatever happens, he is still one of us for the time being and is still the best England has to offer.

He will need to be at his very best to help us overcome the old enemy Germany in the 2nd round this lunchtime though, in what is a 'potentially' mouth watering clash, even if he thinks it is 'just another game' and was happier that we were not facing Ghana, perhaps he is right on last nights showing eh!

Franz Beckenbauer has been at it again this week, and although I suspect he to was doing that 'gamesmanship' thing to be fair he was right that this game 'probably' more fitting of a meeting later in the tournament as opposed to the last 16 but hey ho.

Vital Pompey's very own paultsmouth has, as always, done the match preview - click here. And will also do the report so keep an eye out for this over on Vital England too.

Obviously my heart, as ever, says that England will win and make it into the quarter finals, and whilst my head is not 100% sure at this juncture it is heading that way as it just seems as though it is 'our turn' to beat the Germans.

With Jamo's help I reckon we can do it!

James had a blinder - 4 world class saves and safe handling. I am surprised the press got on his back so much...

Done Deal - Smith in permanently from Swindon

The interest Pompey retained in Smith, with him 'in our sights' has resulted in him returning to the Blues on a permanent basis after signing for an 'undisclosed fee' from Swindon.

    Cushioning the blow

Much, that needed saying, about Webster's exit for Ipswich and the arrival of Clarke in return (and cash) has been said hasn't it? Doyle's been spot on with what he said.

    Swindon striker in 'Pompey's sights'

Michel Smith, who was of course on loan last season, could return? He's still in 'Pompey's sights' by all accounts after Swindon informed him he's 'surplus to requirements' now.
