Pompey at the world cup - Aaron Mokoena

The world cup is 'likely' to come to an end for at least one current, although he could soon become 'former', Pompey player today...

Mokoena and South Africa 'set' to bow out

South Africa, who have so far staged a very good tournament, look set to be led by Aaron Mokoena for the final time at this summers world cup.

Defeat to Uruguay, a heavy 3-0 one at that, last week and a victory for Mexico over France leaves South Africa needing something of a minor miracle today in order for them to become the first host nation ever to fall in the group stages...

Mexico only need a point against Uruguay, who are already through, so - as much as 'topping he group' will be wanted - will either side really exert themselves anymore than they need to?

South Africa on the other hand need to win, and win handsomely to have any chance.

France know that a win 'could' be enough, and they do not quite need to win as convincingly as South Africa to go through - as it is I cannot see either going enough as South Africa lack that quality and France are in complete chaos!

Moko can, and will, be proud to have led his country at the world cup - this is an honour that few get, and is certainly an honour that no South African has had on African soil before...
