Yet another from down the road who made the switch. Question for you EastneyDave; how many Southampton players have gone on to play for Pompey? I can think of 6 off the top of my head.

Russ - only too pleased to put my bit in. Trevor Hebberd of course signed from Derby not So'ton. Those that signed direct include Ron Davies, Bobby Stokes, Scott Hiley, Matt Robinson, Steve Middleton, Eamonn Collins, Paul Gilchrist and Alan McLoughin. That is eight.

Four have gone in the other direction Ricardo Fuller, Barry Horne, Nigel Quashie and Jhon Viafara. Add Peter Crouch, Malcolm Waldron, Ivan Golac (loan), Mick Channon, and it is quite a list.

Of course a certain Alf Ramsey was a youngster at Pompey before going to the Dell and England fame.

Ta Dave, Alf was going to be my second question. I suppose my point is every time I hear someone moaning about a rumour of a player, lately it was Dowie being linked as a manager with Pompey there seems to be this indignant outrage. Yet as you comprehensively prove a switch from one to the other either directly or indirectly is a fairly common event. I met Mickey Channon at Goodwood when I was a youngster and this die hard arm swirling scummer was a Pompey fan. Who ever visited Bobby Stokes burger van? I get fed up with Westy's stand up if you hate the scum chant, don't get me wrong I do on occaisions jump on the scum hating band wagon but I do it with a certain knowledge of reality.
