Pompey at the world cup - Nadir Belhadj

Pompey at the world cup - Nadir Belhadj

Day 2 at the world cup saw no Pompey involvement in the end as Nigerian captain Kanu, quite why he is named as captain if he is not playing, or John Utaka were involved in their 1-0 defeat against Argentina.

David James was also overlooked as England started their group C bid with a 1-1 draw against America - although the Rob Green error 'might' open the door to him for our next game...

Belhadj key to Algerian hopes?

Today will see current, and a former, Pompey players feature - at least they 'should' feature as Algeria begin their world cup quest.

Nadir Belhadj, who we know for a fact will be sold this summer, is a near on dead certainty to start for the African nation this lunchtime as Algeria take on Slovenia - the prize of topping the group is on offer for the team that is brave enough to get the win!

The guy has almost certainly, in fact he HAS, played his last game for Pompey but we will not forget him - I am sure plenty of us will be watching on with hope that he does well today. Lets face it, from a saleability point of view, the better he does the better we 'should' do when selling him.

Belhadj is down as 'the one to watch' with many pundits throughout the world, so lets hope he lives up to his billing - although not too much against England on Friday!

The former Pompey player, who has just ended his loan with us, is Hassan Yebda who is 'expected' to start in midfield.

Can one, or both, inspire Algeria to victory though?

did you see Yebda's bleached hair??!! Dude! Algeria look pretty shabby don't they!. Still NB looked the best of a pretty crappy bunch - love to see him going forward.

Hadjy was close to the pick of the bunch, he had an okay game, though seemed a little nullified in the second half, I thought on the balance of the game a draw would have been fair, but thats football, Yebda did ok too, and yeh nice hair. If Meezah or what ever his name was had not been sent off, the result could have been quite different for them.

Slovenia v Algeria was not a good game by any means, but I thought Nadir shone quite well.

At least our boy, nearly looked the part. Sloven result means we must win now. Shouldn't be beyond England's means the Algerian defence looked as bad as ours.

    Duo sign professional Pompey deals

Will Jez Bedford and Theo Widdrington be the future Pompey midfield? We'll certainly hope so, clearly the Blues do too or they wouldn't have signed professional deals at Fratton Park.

Nathan Thompson - A Swindon perspective

Prior to his departure for Wigan, Paul Cook wanted Nathan Thompson at Pompey. Interest was retained by Kenny Jackett, who completed his free transfer signing from Swindon last week.
