'If It's Football, It's Vital'

We're all going on a stateside tour...

...well, maybe not all of us - in fact probably few of us as who can afford a tip to America?

If any of you guys would like to chip in a fiver each perhaps for me then I would be willing and able to represent Vital Pompey :-)

In any case the club have officially confirmed, as has been 'rumoured' for sometime now, on The Pompey Site that a pre-season tour in the USA will take place.

This is not, as I had suspected would be the case and said in the forum, going to cost the club a penny as this bill is being 'footed' by the hosts.

More info, including the opponents, can be found below...

Pompey Heading To America

Pompey are heading to America for three pre-season friendlies in July.

The Blues will face Mexican giants Club America, an Edmonton select side and MLS side DC United.

Pompey will fly out to California on Monday, July 12 following a friendly with Havant & Waterlooville at Westleigh Park on Saturday, July 10.

They will face Club America at the Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego on Wednesday, July 14, followed by a match against an Edmonton Select on Wednesday, July 21.

Pompey complete their trip with a game against DC United at RFK Stadium, Washington on Saturday, July 24.

The Blues last crossed the Atlantic in the summer of 1951 for a tour of South America. They faced top Brazilian sides Fluminese, Botafogo, America, Santos, Sao Paolo and Palmeiras, drawing three matches and losing the other three.

Ticket information for these games will be confirmed in the next few days.

Shouldn't July be spent getting ready for next season? Is this another of the administrators' publicity stunts rather than any benefit to the players/staff?

Maybe we can win a few fans over there. Not very likely but it'll be interesting to see what kind of team we have then and how it copes against the yanks.
PompeyFrippy
Not sure about this one; why would groves go with this idea, it's not relevant to the league we have dropped into. I assume the yanks are paying top dollar as Admin wouldn't be allowing it. I would have thought the new Chief Exec would need to know and approve, the other possibility is the rumour is true and Lloyd is fronting a US hedge fund company like Investec; that would make Cents of it ( sorry couldn't resist that)

Maybe their planning a raid on fort knox
Tsunami
Bumholes - I just got back today!

Russell thats pretty much the only real reason i can see for us going out there and it would explain why Lloyd never put a firm offer on the table but that means waiting till at least the end of July beginning of August untill we MIGHT be able to get new players and the season starts on the 8th(ish), so we'd be screwed again like this year....

Well I can make it to the Havant & Waterlooville friendly . . .

Sucks for most Pompey Fans, you know the people who have showed much faith over the past year, Sounds like they have forgotten us already!!!

Now the club are being criticised for going on a pre-season tour, that won't cost them a penny, lol. Some people really will complain about anything!
pros7
