Who will be the next Pompey manager?

Who will be the next Pompey manager?

Which way will you vote in the latest Vital Pompey poll, suggested by myself, as we try to gage who people would like as our latest manager?

  • What the poll is asking

Who do YOU want as our next manager?

  • Which way to vote?

David James' name was quickly 'thrown into ring' by Admin Andy, who 'claimed' that the England man was interested, although equally as quickly he moved to dismiss the likelihood that he would get the gig... It is a tough one, I love the guy and think he would be awesome to have around next season - as previously said a fit and able Jamo could be worth 10-15pts for us next season, which could be priceless at whatever end we are at! Will he stay if he is not 'the bossman' though?

It seemed as though Paul Groves was the favourite, and Admin Andy - during one of his many 'tête-à-têtes' with the media had put him high on the list, although he now 'claims' that he has made it clear he does not want the job?

Old boy Kevin Dillon has done a grand job with Aldershot, a short journey could appeal to him and a return to Pompey could also be something he would like although I cannot see this as he is employed already.

Gareth Southgate is a guy that I have always liked, and to be fair I think he did a decent enough job with Middlesbrough, I think his transfer dealings were a bit off, but we would not have that worry! We know that he WOULD give the kids a chance, which is just as well as this is what we will have to do. He seems content in the TV studios at the moment though.

Former England manager, and of course Scum manager too, Glenn Hoddle has not been in management for ages but not for the first time is 'linked' with the vacant job at Fratton - I could see the benefits, even if the guy is a bit of a nutter, but cannot see this coming off.

Eddie Howe has worked miracles with Bournemouth, so we all know what the guy can do, literally on the thread from the shoestring - although why would he make the short journey along the coast when he has just guided them into league 1? A division that we could quite possible be slipping into in the not too distant future and beyond, although fingers crossed this is not the case!

Others have been mentioned, such as Steve Cotterill who is 'said' to have turned down Coventry and is currently mulling over a new contract with Notts County after winning the league 2 title with them. The newest name was Brendon Rodgers, no doubt a Storrieteller recommendation, then again sounds like an Uncle Avram one perhaps? I fear this would be a nightmare waiting to happen - yep he did a job at Watford but like a former manager of ours was off like a greyhound when 'a better offer' came along, and he got his comeuppance as this failed miserable for him.

I really cannot see any manager that is currently employed leaving a post to take us on, for starters how would we pay the compensation? That is before you factor in the thoughts 'why' would they want to leave the stability of the job they are in for us?

All in all though I seriously CANNOT see how, or why, we would appoint before we can agree the CVA and come out of administration?

Lets work on the assumption that the CVA will be signed off, fingers crossed, if by some 'miracle' another potential owner has been lurking in the background waiting for this - something I see as being unlikely - and we are not taken over by Rob Lloyd's lot, which I doubt, or Balram Chainrai, which is more likely, who is to say that they would want the manager that Admin Andy and 'the consultant' put in place anyway?

So, with that in mind why would anyone in their right mind want to take on the job with the uncertainty continuing around the club? Surely it is CVA, exit admin, find and owner and let them then find their manager...

The fact that we 'could' appoint a manager before these other things 'seems' to point further to everything being laid in place long ago, with Chainrai being this owner, or at least the one that will step in by such and such a date if nothing else happens - without some form of 'organisation' behind the scenes how could we agree a new kit deal, appoint a CEO, organise pre-season, offer new contracts (a cynic would say we know they will be rejected) or even consider looking for a new manager?

Whatever you think make sure you vote on this latest poll to your right, but also share you views below too...

Will he be salary capped? Will he have a transfer fund? Will he have any players left? Until that is known only the 'desperate for a job' or somebody loyal to the club (eg Jamo?) would apply. Whoever comes in, I think it'll be a temporary appointment if it's made before a new owner comes in for the reasons you stated Rug.

I don't think southgate was that good actually his favourite response to a loss was " we just weren't good enough" no mention of his tactical coq ups. I agree the decision can wait until a CVA is close and the new CX is in

Well we need someone if only to start getting a squad together and arrange the pre-season training!! We all know what happened this year when we didn't get a pre-season in - that is what really relegated us! But also agree, any appointment without a CVA, owner, Chief Exec in place is likely to be similar to brian clough at Leeds! PUP

not rogers ...however, he was highly rated. i think cotterill is another Pulis, knocking around the lower leagues mainly and then will get e decntly sized club capable of premier league( Iknow he was at Sunderland and Burnley, both easily fit that bil)

It looks like Paul groves has ruled himself out as he's following Avram to West Ham, with Ian Woan and David Coles if the Express is to be believed. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/p/portsmouth/8705105.stm

Northampton (h) - Securing home advantage?

Some could view this as a 'dead rubber!' It isn't as Champions Northampton will want to end on a high and Pompey will want 'an advantage' against Plymouth in the play-offs. Right?

    Pompey MotM at Hartlepool

Pompey went into the penultimate game with a slim chance of a top 3 finish. A 2-0 win at Hartlepool saw the Blues do what we needed but wins for others ended those chances.
