My Grandad always went on about Lindy; reckoned he was the first black player ever to have a contract to play in the league. I thought it was another but grandad insisted; particularly after a few Cornish ciders

Pretty certain grandad was right Russ. Lindy who is now back in his native Jamaica played only eight time for Pompey but was a real hit at Middlesbrough scoring one hundred goals during fifties.
