James expected to stay at Pompey?

'David James will still be at Pompey next season', not my vote, yours - although these findings from pompeyrug's poll are thoughts that I want to see happen...

I am unsure on this one guys, I sway back and forth on this - one minute I am convinced he will stay, the next I am not so sure?

The one thing that I do know though, I really DO hope that he is here next season. What a bonus this would be, and assuming he can stay fit enough I think he would be worth 10-15pts in the no power league next season!

On the eve of the FA cup final he was not being offered a new contract, Admin Andy himself said this, yet days later his 'denied' that this would be the case - despite giving the 'exclusive' interview on this, and other things - with James then being one of several revealed as a player offered a new contract, that said 'word on the street' has said, if I saw it correctly over the weekend, is that his agent has denied a contract being offered?

James is also 'said' to have thrown his hat into the ring as a possible to become our next manager, although again Admin Andy seems to be doing all he can to play this down but is saying the right things about wanting him involved in this process.

I do think that James would be happy to stay, and money IS NOT his motivating factor although with continued uncertainty surrounding the club he could well be tempted for one last 'hurrah' in the premier league, perhaps with Uncle Avram at West Ham?

Offering a player-coach, at least, to Jamo would enhance these chances of him staying though - I guess all we can do at the moment is keep our fingers crossed that England's no.1 will decide to stay and wish him well in South Africa this summer...

  • What the poll asked - Jamo - will he stay or will he go?

  • How you voted - Stay 62%
    Go 24%
    Unsure 14%

Before we move on what are your thoughts on what the last poll concluded? You know what to do, thoughts below please guys...

If AA would agree to, say, a player/coach appointment I'm sure it's a challenge Jamo couldn't resist. Apparently the players all want him in some coaching/managerial role.

Must be something going on or else they wouldn't have let Ashdown go, as we only have the young reserve keeper and unlikely they would throw him into the first team. I think it is too early for Jamo to be Manager but a coaching role would possibly suit all parties.

He knows this is his last world cup so unless he can survive on a mere 40,000 per month with bonuses about poor mans half a million a year and have Pompey pay for his managerial future. IF he can put up with those hardships he might stay.

If there's an international level player who will put up with a pay cut, it's our Jamo. He's already said he wants to stay at the club and is happy to play in the power league 'proper football'. And he is reaching the twilight of his career after all. I think he'll stay.
