I am a self confessed Marc Wilson fan, I always have and probably always will be - so to hear him tell The News that he does want his future to be with Pompey is music to my ears.
He says that he is fully aware of the 'reported interest' in him but he is just trying 'to concentrate on the football' and feels that a 'good professional' is able to 'block it all out'.
With his contract, and a new one was signed not too long ago, tying him to Pompey for several more years this is where he would like to stay: 'at the end of the day, I'm contracted to Portsmouth Football Club. I've been here for seven years and I love it here.
'It's a bit difficult to say what will happen in the future with all the stuff that's been going on at the club.
'They were saying that they would try to sell all of the players not so long ago so there might not be a choice.'
He appreciates that we have had to sell players, and might have to again, so what is best for the club is the 'most important thing' but is happy here so will see what the summer brings: 'I'm really happy at Portsmouth and I always have been. I will just have to see what happens at the club over the summer and take it from there.'
Wilson himself admits that he has been pleased with his season, even if he is not so pleased with how it has gone for us as a club: 'I'm obviously not pleased that the team is bottom of the Premier League and we had a nine-point deduction.
'But I've been pleased with some of my performances and I feel I've improved as a player.'
He also admits that - and as I had often said I felt is - a holding midfielder role his best position, and his preferred position: 'I still say I would prefer to play in midfield as the defensive midfielder but I know that needs must and I'm happy to play wherever I'm asked.'
The guy has not always been everybody's cup of tea, and has come in for - and for me, fan or no fan of the guy - what I think has been somewhat harshly unfair criticism at times. Granted he has made mistakes but, even though he is 22, is still young in terms of 'footballing experience'.
All in all I would say that he has been one of the 'success stories' of the season.
So, if we can keep him and are in a position to spurn the 'reported' advances of 'long-term suitors' Sunderland and a newly added name Fulham then I hope we can.
A lot will depend on the outcome of things in the coming weeks, so depending on how this goes then we will, or could be left with little or no option but to cash in on anyone that has a decent value about them and sees a 'decent' offer made for them, and Wilson is one of these players that falls into that bracket...
