Wigan to Win Andy Race?

Wigan to Win Andy Race?

Wigan have revealed that they have had bids accepted for two 'high-profile' players.

'What is happening at Wigan is absolutely fantastic and now that we have secured our Premiership status, we can start building for the future and bring in the sort of quality players who will take us to the next level,' Spencer told the club's website.

'I can confirm that we have made a number of substantial bids for high-profile players and that two of those bids have been accepted.

'We are also busy pursuing other targets.

'However, I have learned over the years, and it is even more relevant at this level, that patience is a virtue when it comes to transfer dealings.

'We have always prided ourselves on being totally professional and we do not believe in revealing names while negotiations are taking place. This is unfair on us and the players involved and can harm any potential deal.

'Our supporters can rest assured that Dave Whelan, Paul Jewell and I are working closely to improve the squad and that we will continue to work around the clock until we feel the club is ready for next season.'

Wigan are thought to have paid the ten million pound request from Crystal Palace, after the striker reportable handed in a transfer request yesterday.

Portsmouth are thought to be in talks with Crystal Palace, however they are not expected to be able to match Wigan’s offer.

This could possible open the door for Henri Camara to move to Portsmouth, enabling Wigan to retrieve some of the money going to be spent on Andy.

In other gossip today, Harry Redknapp could possible be making one of the most exciting loan deals ever next week. (more on that later!)

Camara will have a few photos taken if he ever adorns a Pompey shirt. The bugger has scored against us a couple of times so now is the time to rewind somewhat.

On this day in history...26th June

A look back at this day in history, and what was happening with Pompey courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, 26th June.

Done Deal - Smith in permanently from Swindon

The interest Pompey retained in Smith, with him 'in our sights' has resulted in him returning to the Blues on a permanent basis after signing for an 'undisclosed fee' from Swindon.

Cushioning the blow

Much, that needed saying, about Webster's exit for Ipswich and the arrival of Clarke in return (and cash) has been said hasn't it? Doyle's been spot on with what he said.

Swindon striker in 'Pompey's sights'

Michel Smith, who was of course on loan last season, could return? He's still in 'Pompey's sights' by all accounts after Swindon informed him he's 'surplus to requirements' now.
