We 'might' go on a European tour again afterall!
I do not know if anyone has seen this, or heard it anywhere, but I have just been told that Admin Andy has applied for us to go into the uefa, sorry Europa league next season...
We had declined the opportunity to register ourselves for European football next season, and the deadline for this has passed - although with Chelski being our opponents in the final an assured place is there 'if' we are allowed in, whatever happens in this game!
And 'word on the street' has it that Pompey now want to have a piece of the European road trip again?
This is something that we discussed on the way home yesterday and we had this feeling that 'if' we won the cup we would be given the right to go in, although we felt that if we lose then this place would just go back to the league, as it seemed it would?
'Fingers crossed' that this does come off, and whatever side we put out, and wherever this would be and for however long it lasted, I WOULD be there...
Then again did we not have fears that we could not meet the 'uefa standards' so that is why we opted out of applying? Or was it all a money-based decision?
It will be interesting to see what will come of this, although this and other potentially good news recently, not to mention the fact that we ARE FA cup finalists again makes me think, maybe wrongly, that something is afoot and 'better times' could be on there way?
I do hope so!
Do we dare to believe that 'something' could soon be sorted out to get us up and running again, and also give us another crack at European football...

I seem to remember somewhere that Cup Final runners up would no longer be allowed into the Euro vase or whatever it is called. But heyho it is worth a go.

i am sure, granted not 100%, that it is the league cup runner-up that does not get in anymore - and have not for a few years - the FA cup runner-up still does, unless this has changed this season?

I hope you get in there, you deserve a bit more luck. Plus then we can laugh even more at Spurs that Championship Pompey are on their travels in Europe and Spurs, despite spending hundreds of millions of pounds couldn't even manage that. lol

there was definatly talk along those lines last year dave - not sure whether it's actually come into affect though.

There is also the question of the Community Shield too .. Assuming Chelsea win the league ..

The only way I can see this happening is if Chanrai or another investor agrees to pay. No way can creditors in a CVA be expected to fund a Euro tour. I would love to be wrong but I think we will miss out; lol but I also said the spuds would stuff us :-)

yep, good point chixy - just been talking on the phone to my cousin and he said that he got up this morning and thought about that, the thought is even if we lose, so long as chelski win the league we will play them in the charity shield next season so our first league game in the no power league would be called off!

I always thought if the same club won league and cup, then they would face whoever came second in the league.

I can't find anything that confirms this on TheFA.com, but on it's Wikipedia page I found :- "If a team wins The Double (both the Premier League and the FA Cup), then the Double winner plays the Premier League runner-up." Looks like we're gonna have to beat Chelsea after all.

We might, not sure the finances will stretch this time around but having experienced all 3 away games in 2008, if you can do at least 1.

It seems to be official news, that as finalists we qualify, and that Admin Andy is appealing for us to be let in. He said he has no idea if the appeal might work or not. Got to be worth a go, I guess.

Great staff from Admin Andy. I am liking this man! He makes sense when it matters most. Oh how I would love to go to Europe again. That would help us restore Avram and some of our players. If that is Andy's plan, I am sure we will have a decent team next year!

We didn't register in time and if we're still in administration I think we don't qualify anyway, especially with Platini in charge. Funny how he doesn't have a go at Real Madrid who bailed out by the Spanish Government every now and then.
