It comes to something when the prospect of John Utaka being fit and available is something that you, well I, hope and pray will be the case...
These prayers 'look' to have been answers as he has returned to full training to give us a boost.
Whatever way we look at it, 'used out of position' or 'confidence shot' by this etc., all in all Utaka HAS been bitterely disappointing for us during his Pompey career to date - on the whole.
Yet in all fairness this season, certainly since the turn of the year, he has shown some decent form, yet injuries have seen him sidelined more than we would have wanted him to be!
The Nigeria is expected to be fit to face Blackburn at the weekend, but with the FA cup semi final coming up the weekend after would it not be wiser to 'save' him for that?
We ARE struggling to field a side against Blackburn, that much is obvious, but with several players already ruled out of the semi can we afford to take any undue risks...
Out of necessity, as opposed to anything else, I would think that there is a pretty good chance that Joel Ward and Matty Ritchie could make their league debuts for us this weekend - possibly as starters, maybe even Leonard Sowah could too?
If it were me I think, with such an important game coming up and with so many injuries as it is I would do this - in many ways WHAT have we got to lose anyway!
Certainly I know that Ward and Ritchie are desperate to pull on the blues shirt and make their league debuts, this will mean the world to them. It 'might' backfire on us, but on the other hand they could play a 'blinder' and give us something else to cheer about, and give Avram Grant something positive to ponder ahead of the semi with a few more 'options' to select from - although Ritchie is cup-tied anyway.
Like I say why not? What have we got to lose?
Not a lot!

in many ways i would be happy to throw a load of the kids in on saturday, altho we CANNOT even do that as far as i understand because, despite being our players, as i understand it as they are not 'technically' registered as professionals we cannot register them as we are banned from registering new players!
not sure what the largest defeat is russ, sure spurs will not want this on their record books tho...as that is what they are heading for!
