Some good news...sort of!

Some good news...sort of!

It comes to something when the prospect of John Utaka being fit and available is something that you, well I, hope and pray will be the case...

These prayers 'look' to have been answers as he has returned to full training to give us a boost.

Whatever way we look at it, 'used out of position' or 'confidence shot' by this etc., all in all Utaka HAS been bitterely disappointing for us during his Pompey career to date - on the whole.

Yet in all fairness this season, certainly since the turn of the year, he has shown some decent form, yet injuries have seen him sidelined more than we would have wanted him to be!

The Nigeria is expected to be fit to face Blackburn at the weekend, but with the FA cup semi final coming up the weekend after would it not be wiser to 'save' him for that?

We ARE struggling to field a side against Blackburn, that much is obvious, but with several players already ruled out of the semi can we afford to take any undue risks...

Out of necessity, as opposed to anything else, I would think that there is a pretty good chance that Joel Ward and Matty Ritchie could make their league debuts for us this weekend - possibly as starters, maybe even Leonard Sowah could too?

If it were me I think, with such an important game coming up and with so many injuries as it is I would do this - in many ways WHAT have we got to lose anyway!

Certainly I know that Ward and Ritchie are desperate to pull on the blues shirt and make their league debuts, this will mean the world to them. It 'might' backfire on us, but on the other hand they could play a 'blinder' and give us something else to cheer about, and give Avram Grant something positive to ponder ahead of the semi with a few more 'options' to select from - although Ritchie is cup-tied anyway.

Like I say why not? What have we got to lose?

Not a lot!

You have nothing to lose, except perhaps another fine from the PL for not playing your first choice players...but you should **** 'em! Play your kids and O'Hara and keep your best players back for the semi...

tbh spursex i am not sure how much 'option' we will have with regards to the like of ward, ritchie and sowah that i mention...i might say 'what have we got to lose', which we have not anything really, but we really look as tho we might not have an option and if this got us a fine then that would just be the premier league ripping the ***** out of us even more - bare bones? we are far beyond that now...
in many ways i would be happy to throw a load of the kids in on saturday, altho we CANNOT even do that as far as i understand because, despite being our players, as i understand it as they are not 'technically' registered as professionals we cannot register them as we are banned from registering new players!

they cant fine us for putting the reserves in when we have no first team players in that position left.. u cant just put john utaka in centre half just coz hes a first team player.... joel ward is our first choice centre half now because hes our only fit centre half .... mokoena who is a midfielder.. and thats it

Grant will play his favoured 1, 9,1 formation anyway; what is the largest defeat so far at Wembly?

I'd definitely be up for sticking Ritchie in on the left, think he looks a good prospect. Not sure how fit Ward is at the moment though.

he was fit enough for the bench at spurs wasnt he so that is fitter than most, so that will do me :-)
not sure what the largest defeat is russ, sure spurs will not want this on their record books that is what they are heading for!

Pompey MotM at Oldham

Jack Whatmough's performance was seen as the best one from a Pompey player against Oldham in last Saturday's victory at Boundary Park.

Beneficial for all concerned

Four defeats in five came to an end at the weekend as Pompey won at Oldham. Victory was great, but the decision to drop Christian Burgess was a main talking point ahead of this game.
