It is quite simple really, with the right PA and saying the right thing you can make yourself a hero regardless!
Younes Kaboul telling The News that he 'didn't want to leave Portsmouth and I never asked anyone to leave the club' but did this because 'we needed the money' and he wanted to 'do what he could do to help' is spot on and shows what a top man Younes is.
The guy got a fantastic reception when he came on as a sub at the weekend, and I did see him glance over into the corner at one point. Chants of 'Younes, Younes', 'Younes is a Pompey fan, Younes is a Pompey fan' could be heard echoing round White Hart Lane.
At the end of the game he applauded the fans, the Pompey fans, exchanged shirts with someone - hopefully giving it back after as we cannot afford to keep giving them away! - and hugged most of the players and coaching staff as he went.
Like I say, it is so simple - say the right things, act the right way and you can totally change the common, sometimes misconception, about 'modern day footballers'. They are not ALL the same!
Although in all fairness I genuinely believe Younes when he comes out with these sorts of things - it was blatantly obvious how much it was meaning to him playing for us and how he appreciated the fans.
You might recall one of the 'protests' back along? Who was the one that came out to face the fans, despite being advised not to? Yep, it was him with a chorus of 'Younes is our leader' breaking out I was told.
He is a top man and a top footballer - it is just a shame that he will not really be appreciated where he is, this IS NOT a dig at Spurs, but lets face it the chances of him playing that regularly are pretty remote and I cannot see him being appreciated as a person, or footballer, as much there as he was here.
All in all it makes it all the more depressing thinking about another top all-round person, and quality footballer that DID want to be here, that we have lost due to the shambolic state of this club...
