Cuts begin, but will the players take some?

The Guardian today reports that the 'cut backs' have started with a 'list' being drawn up of who would be going and head of communications Gary Double was one of these people who would be leaving the club?

This 'list' has been denied by the administrator Andrew Andronkiou, although Double is 'said' to have decided to walk rather than be pushed?

In order to 'try' and save jobs it is also said that some players approached Avram Grant about the people on the footballing side of things taking a cut in order to try and save other jobs: 'two of my players came to me and suggested taking a reduction in wages to try and help some of the people, as we all feel great sadness at what is happening at this club.'

Hats off to whoever these players were, in a day and age when so many are criticised for their 'greed' and so on it is good to hear that some feel this strongly - would others follow though...

Those, good, honest, hard working individuals that have done absolutely NOTHING wrong to warrant losing a job are the ones that SHOULD NOT do so - so hopefully some agreement can be arranged to help secure the futures of those that are in more need of keeping their income.

'Thinning the club' to make it more 'attractive' is something that Balram Chainrai will be doing though - although how much more 'thinner' it can get is up for debate, clearly some of the highest earners we still have need to go and as most of these will be out of contract in the summer they are almost certain to go unless they took a massive pay cut...

Either ways 'Balu' is not ruling out taking over: 'nothing is ruled in or out. Of course Balu would like to sell but this has to be to the right buyer. Might he continue? Sure, he might. But that depends on many things, with the support of the fans very important.

'The fans would have to want Balu to stay on, first of all. Then, it would be wait and see. He wants to sell the club. But you never know in football.'

To be honest I would think that a clean slate is best for all, but going about this the right way is something that must be done!

So, it is a dark day for Portsmouth Football Club - all we can all hope for is that from this darkness a new light of a fresh beginning can be found...

It would be very interesting to know who those 2 players were, Herman would be my first guess...

You'd have to think Herman and James. Shame the administrator doesn't tell the truth, club people have been informed he DOES have a list but still denied it this morning. We have need of honesty, he needs to get that message

James if he's got any humility, which i expect he has to be fair.

It is important to understand that in administration the ONLY person who can make decisions is the Adminstrator. Whatever comes out of anybody elses mouth including Chainrais from this point forward is 'unofficial'. So if the adminstrator denies there was a list drawn up in advance we have either to disbelieve he from the off or trust his word. One hour into day one we are believing the media rather than the man charged with running our club. We need to be think carefully who is saying what and for what motive from here on in.

it has always been my view that the administrator ONLY does what is best for the club and is the only one that matters, has a say, tells the truth and uncovers what is going on...i PRAY that is the case but it is very worrying when you have people from swindon that have seen him in action are firing so many words of warning out way, could they all be wrong?
with so many lies having been told to us over the years it is so hard to trust isnt it - this trust has been misplaced before but we have to trust the administator, right...

Rug .. as a summary of what I said to you last night re Swindon..... There are two sides to every story.. and in fairness in terms of what the Swindon Trust was asking for from the adminstrator they had no 'legal or creditable' interest to know.. so he might have seen them as sticking there noses in when he had a job to do .. Hence him publicly calling them 'busybodies' The important thing is that we FOCUS ON THE END RESULT.. in some respects (and this sounds really harsh) I don't care about his methods or the feelings of our and Swindons trust or SOS Pompey and to a degree most of the creiditors.... AS LONG AS WE SURVIVE... Futhermore I bet (other than the Trust Board) nobody in Swindon can remember his name five years on ... but they survived and are rebuilding.. so he did his job - Nobody can argue that ..
