Wilson called-up by Ireland

Wilson called-up by Ireland

It has seemed like good news has been at a premium for Pompey for some time - we get the odd 'snippet' here and there, but more often than not this comes to nothing anyway.

Although, and for me this is good news - even though I am sure there will be a fair amount of negativity surrounding it, which is fair enough as we all have opinions - Marc Wilson has gained his first call-up for Ireland.

He has been named in the squad to face Brazil on March 2nd - and to be fair Giovanni Trapattoni has been around the block a few times so the Wilson cannot be all bad can he!

Yep Wilson has made mistakes, an yep he might not have always learned from them but he has been well and truly thrown in at the deep end this season and I think, assuming we do come through ok as a club and we do not look to offload him, he will gain from this. I am still not convinced he is a central defender though - I feel with his footballing ability and range of passing, which is good, he would be better suited as a defensive midfielder really.

For me, in a season full of lows, I would say the emergence of Wilson - even if it has been more out of necessity - has, overall, been one of the few high(ish) points to be honest...

I'm not a big fan, but good luck to the lad, he's battled hard without complaining.

I like him a lot (though one too many Johan Cruyff turns for my liking) and I think it's deserved. Well done Marc

i think we all know i like the guy, and i know tony knows i do - i said to you at the weekend, as i did above, that overall he has been one of the few pluses - inspite of some costly errors - this season, nice one marc!

Easy to pick on the lad. He is young, learning his trade & will get better. He has been thrown in at the deep end in the mother of all bad seasons. There are other older, more experienced players who also need their a55e5 kicking. On a cynical note, it could increase his sell on value.

What do we hope for from the rest of the season?

There seems to be a lot of unhappiness around, despite a pretty decent season in my opinion. Well, certainly our best season in a long while.

Debut delight...kind of!

It wasn't a result, and in many ways a performance, for Sheff United loanee Freeman to remember too fondly as he didn't really have a great game against Orient? Then again who did!

Tubbs has left the building

Tubbs has finally left Pompey; perhaps his destination is something of a surprise then again there had been some 'rumours' recently of an Eastleigh interest.
