Portsmouth Supporters Trust Launch Event

The Pompey Supporters Trust officially launches this week, here is some info on tomorrow nights event - see below...

PLAY UP POMPEY!

Fans will get their chance to find out more about the newly-formed Pompey Supporters' Trust (here), as well as join the organisation, at a special event in Portsmouth on Thursday.

The event will be held on 11th February at the Rifle Club, Goldsmith Avenue. The Rifle Club is a short walk from both Fratton Park and Fratton train station. Doors will open at 7.30pm and will remain open until the venue reaches it capacity.

Members of the trust's steering committee will be making a presentation explaining the aims of the Trust and a variety of guest speakers, including former players and special guests will be there to give their support.

It is also hoped a representative of PFC will be at the meeting to give the club's backing to the initiative.

A series of regional launch events are also being organised including Havant, Chichester, Gosport, Fareham, Petersfield, London and the Isle of Wight. Other further-a-field venues are being considered, including Reading or Basingstoke, Guildford or Woking and a couple of venues in the West Country. A Trust information desk will be at the Cricket Club at Burnley before the game.

I can't make this meeting, but if the worse-case scenario is discussed then please, please, please can we make sure that the newly formed incarnation of our club is NOT christened anything like 'AFC Pompey', 'Pompey United' or 'FC of Portsmouth/Pompey'. It sounds sunday league and is not true to heritage. Surely the best choice is 'Portsmouth City Football Club'. On top of the fact that it is the name we use in an existing chant, the club and city go hand in hand and that should be the way we promote ourselves were the unthinkable to happen.
frattonchorus
Portsmouth City Football Club already exists, it the legal name of the current club.
stooH
yea but you could buy 'portsmouth football club' off that guy who was in The News recently
pompeym@
That is true, but that is the company name and not that registered with the FA. Portsmouth City Football Club does not exist in a football sense.
frattonchorus
Arguing over the name already. Heaven help us all!!! There are massive issues to deal with, what happens when that get's argued over???
storagematt
it's the acorn from which mighty oaks may grow. Pick the wrong name and you could be stuck with it for the next 112 years ;-)

If anyone goes can they write a report? It is an important event after all, sadly I am busy.
