PLAY UP POMPEY!

The Pompey Supporters Trust is likely to have a huge impact on the future of Portsmouth Football Club but how exactly did it come about?

Back in September 2009 various people contacted supporters direct about the possibility of starting a supporters trust in Portsmouth. Many fans, including myself, were worried about the future of the club. James Mathie at Supporters Direct put everyone who'd expressed an interest in creating a Pompey Trust in contact with each other and an open meeting was held in November.

The meeting on November 25th (at the Rifle Club) saw everyone who was in attendance in favour of the formation of "Pompey Supporters Trust." The people who'd originally contacted Supporters Direct and others who'd put themselves forward to help at the open meeting, met a few weeks later at Smiffys Bar December 8th.

After a productive meeting a working committee was formed and areas of the trust were broken down into sub categories:

Constitutional
Financial
Membership
Communications
Media
Community
Stadium

After much hard work over the next few weeks from the Pompey Supporters Trust volunteers, a second working committee meeting occurred at the Good Companion Pub January 4th. This was just a chance for those working on the various sub categories to update everyone of progress and raise any issues that needed to be voted on. One such debate was that of membership and after lengthy discussion £5 just received majority approval over £10.

More great work followed that and the Trust became registered, membership forms were put in place, logo was designed, website created and a bank account is shortly set to follow.

Another open meeting was held at the Rifle Club January 19th and this gave the general Pompey public the opportunity to ask the working committee questions about the direction of the Trust. At the end of the open meeting it was agreed by all those in attendance that the working committee would continue until the trust was in a position to elect a board.

Various email discussions followed this and it was agreed the next open meeting would occur on February 1st and the trust launch on February 11th. The working committee are set to meet Al Fahim on the 26th of January to discuss the possible donation of 10% of Portsmouth Football Club to the Trust.
