I had to miss the final few minutes of the transfer window as I had to go into start work, but when I left to do this, at literally 16.58 I did so 'fairly confident' that what we had at that point would be what we would have...
As I went into work though I asked a guy, who would be in the canteen until 17.30, to let me know if anything changed - when he came along and said 'no one had come in and no one had gone out' I was happy enough!
So, you can imagine how disappointed I was when I nipped out around 18.30 to find out that Asmir Begovic had in actual fact been sold to Stoke with the breaking news going along the bottom in the yellow box saying 'Asmir Begovic joins Stoke'...
I had resigned myself to losing the guy but the reality that we could beat all odds and prevent the owners from 'fleecing us again' really looked on, given that we had rejected a bid earlier in the day and threatened to report Stoke to the premier league due to an 'illegal approach' - what a load of crap!
Yep, I am disappointed but we still have David James, although he WILL move on in the summer leaving us with who? And WILL we even play him? Ah well, we could always move for Tony Warner, I see Hull released him...
All in all though, whilst it would have been nice to have seen another loanee or 2 arrive I must admit, as I had virtually become resigned to losing Begovic and the already departed Younes Kaboul I HAD, in all honesty, expected more to go!
So, we now know exactly what we have to work with, potentially free agents could come in, but just how much longer can we limp on now?
Whenever payday comes around - have we even paid January's yet? - it will always be dreaded and with more and more calling in their debts, or withdrawing their services if not paid, God only knows what the future will bring.
Even so, despite the expected continued off-the-field issues at least we now know that NO ONE else can be sold now until the summer at least, assuming we make it that far...

I've just read that .. It's priceless mate.. really made me chuckle .. "20 beeanaitch" brilliant
i still hope that we will have a future, and if we do - god willing - then i would not write of o'brien, this kid has the potential to be as good, if not better, than bego so with the right guidance - and i am talking about david coles - we could still have a quality keeper for the future...
