'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Disappointing, but expected, really...

I had to miss the final few minutes of the transfer window as I had to go into start work, but when I left to do this, at literally 16.58 I did so 'fairly confident' that what we had at that point would be what we would have...

As I went into work though I asked a guy, who would be in the canteen until 17.30, to let me know if anything changed - when he came along and said 'no one had come in and no one had gone out' I was happy enough!

So, you can imagine how disappointed I was when I nipped out around 18.30 to find out that Asmir Begovic had in actual fact been sold to Stoke with the breaking news going along the bottom in the yellow box saying 'Asmir Begovic joins Stoke'...

I had resigned myself to losing the guy but the reality that we could beat all odds and prevent the owners from 'fleecing us again' really looked on, given that we had rejected a bid earlier in the day and threatened to report Stoke to the premier league due to an 'illegal approach' - what a load of crap!

Yep, I am disappointed but we still have David James, although he WILL move on in the summer leaving us with who? And WILL we even play him? Ah well, we could always move for Tony Warner, I see Hull released him...

All in all though, whilst it would have been nice to have seen another loanee or 2 arrive I must admit, as I had virtually become resigned to losing Begovic and the already departed Younes Kaboul I HAD, in all honesty, expected more to go!

So, we now know exactly what we have to work with, potentially free agents could come in, but just how much longer can we limp on now?

Whenever payday comes around - have we even paid January's yet? - it will always be dreaded and with more and more calling in their debts, or withdrawing their services if not paid, God only knows what the future will bring.

Even so, despite the expected continued off-the-field issues at least we now know that NO ONE else can be sold now until the summer at least, assuming we make it that far...

The reason we only lost the two expected was no one wanted what we had left; eg Dindane had two moves collapse over his ability and wages and his club Lens didn't want him back - conversation goes something like allo, allo er donc is zat pompeey, whin iz ewe fair divvy up la doche or wee wiill tek I'm back here frog side? Erm gorblimey guvnor you wants payin an all, eres a pack of 20 beeanaitch or youse gonna ave to tayke im back frogside intcha mayte! Tek eem back, merde, oh no no rosbiff you ave im ooh aym sorry we az a poor signal on ze potable tiliphon. Bye bye - that's why we still have Dong ding the non scoring striker.

Ok I'm drunk but you get the point

errm... basically, i accepted we would lose kaboul - I hoped we would get more for him, but he was always going to leave. but this... this leaves us with nothing. honestly, i know it shouldn't have any serious effect on our season - jamo is just as good a keeper. but it says so much about the owners plans for the club. and it leaves me feeling completly empty.

thats my point carpet, what happens when the next lot of wages need paying - there is nothing left sad times! we must have made well over 120m with player sales, TV money, Europe and FA Cup money etc, i reckon in that time we have spent about 60m on players and yet the owners have apparently been pumping money into the club - were is/has it all gone ....

Where's the money gone? Interest payments, agents commissions and paying back creditors.

i guess harry clicked at the right time.... when Storrie gave him the nod to jump ship .... wudnt surprised me if Harry is paying Stories wages !!
southportpompey
or vice versa maybe !!

I think what annoys me, is the manner in which he left. Finding out AFTER the window was closed, when we thought we were 'safe'..... such a bitter sorta feeling.

Whatever future Portsmouth Football Club had left, has walked out the door and gone to Stoke.

it is disappointing, depressing and upsetting and whilst i am not convinced i believe it but 'if', as is said, bego wanted out what could we do in the end?
i still hope that we will have a future, and if we do - god willing - then i would not write of o'brien, this kid has the potential to be as good, if not better, than bego so with the right guidance - and i am talking about david coles - we could still have a quality keeper for the future...
pompeyrug
what the **** made Bego such a hero................all you guys get obssessed don't you!! depressed ahhhhhhhh let him go! After all we've got Niemi who is yet to play for the 1st team!! what a waste of money!! but i feel more sorry for Ashdown who is suddenly the baddie in all this and treated like *****!Let him leave if he's not the one for the club.....but no......... I believe had a loan deal to Kilmarnock refused by the club towards the end of 2009 ( QPR also wanted him but again the club stopped him from leaving). He is treated like crap! Given one game recently and a goal went in...........well Jamo your other hero didn't do so good on Sunday did he! goal number 2 was all his gifting.........so come on guys be fair! look forward to all your sarcastic comments...........yey!!
