What do we have to play with ?

What do we have to play with ?

Ok so despite my denial Asmir Begovic has gone to Stoke for somewhere in the region of £4 million

So what do we do ? Dust ourselves down and get on with it - Right ?

Let`s look at who we do have

Keepers
David James,
Jamie Ashdown,
Anti Neimi

Defenders
Hermann Hreidarsson
Tal Ben Haim
Marc Wilson
Nadir Belhadj
Anthony Vanden Borre
Steve Finnan
Joel Ward

Midfielders
Jamie O`Hara
Kevin Prince-Boateng
Aaron Mokoena
Michael Brown
Richard Hughes
Angelas Bassinas
Hassan Yebda
Hayden Mullins
Papa Bouba Diop

Forwards
Freedy Piquionne
Kanu
Quincy
Tommy Smith
John Utaka
Danny Webber
Danijel Subotic

Is that a squad good enough to keep us up ?

Are we doomed .. or can we scrap it out ?

Doomed...I can't see 10 goals being scored by the strikers we now have. To be honest, I would rather go down with a load of good youngsters like Matt Richie, scrapping for the cause than watch a bunch of mediocre journeymen run around like headless chickens Sorry, just depressed at watching Pompeys future being sold for peanuts.

Well we can still get free transfers if there are any worthwhile ones out there within our wage budget.

We just don't know the position regarding Dindane .. I don't know if he can play for us or not .. I'm awaiting somebody to tell me something official

We're only going to stay up if we start scoring goals, we haven't signed any prolific strikers this window - so you'd have to say no we're not going to stay up. Coupled with a weakened defence, our chances look slimmer.

Survival as a club is key, anything else is a bonus.

I must admit it's looking bleak - I'm still not too bothered about Begovic as we need the money and consdiering he wasn't worth a penny six months ago I can see why they would sell him while he's hot

Furthermore looking at what we still have a large number of players are coming up to the end of their contracts: James, Niemi and Ashdown are all in their last year I believe. Ward, Hermann, Wilson and VB for defenders. O'Hara, Basinas, Yebda of the midfielders. Piq, Quincy and Kanu for forwards.

But that is getting a little ahead of ourselves.

I'm looking at a squad that is Championship material bar maybe 3 players ! also, quite a few are injury prone (or at that age). Who knows, we may see a bit of movement still - Crikes ! I hope so..... But, you're right....not worth dwelling on it.....I'll support whoever pulls on the Blue and puts in a decent shift...PUP

did ok against citeh, got to be in with a chance if no scottish or european clubs nick any more, and if these get paid and do not -within thier rights- sod off for free to another club, and if we do not go into administration, or go into liquidation...

Hartlepool (a) - Safety first!

A win at Wimbledon made sure of a play-offs place. Technically we can finish in the top 3 but this would require an unlikely set of results from too many clubs wouldn't it?
